Default lift pucks for a service lift?

I have my own 2 post service lift. I am not an idiot and probably have the skill required to position my lift arms to not hit the rocker panels. I understand that having a nice big target that sits below the rockersis easier for most people, but do you really need lift pucks to put a C5 on a hoist? Everybody seems hell bent on blowing $50 on pucks.

Try it without pucks and let us know how it works out.

looks like the short answer is no.

I think my low profile rubber pads are bigger than the puck, but I was wondering about the edge of the frame closer to the center.

I have these Rocker Rails on my C5. They are thick enough so that they protrude slightly below the panels and go past the two holes in the frame rails. They are a great help when crossing speed bumps or driveways that have a sharp angle.

While they do cover a very small portion of the frame holes, pucks could still be used if necessary.

If you are not sure, spending the money for some jacking picks could save some damage to the rocker panels on the underside of the car.

$50 seems like a small sum to avoid cracking rocker panels. As mentioned earlier you can drill into hockey pucks and make your own for much less.

There are preferred lifting locations further in toward the center of the car. Would probably be kinda hard to hit with a two-post lift. See the end of post #3 here.

yeah I am not going to be able to hit them ( the front inner ones) with my lift arms.
I will pull it in as soon as I get my shop clear and see if I can do it like the picture I posted a link to. if not I may hit the inside edge of the frame rail. I have to get my fat a$$ on the ground and look.
hockey pucks may just be the easiest option.
my standard car pads are too big to use in the tiedown/puck location.
it is all moot until I get my shop cleaned up from the winter project.

The 2 post lift i use with plain hockey pucks, they end up sitting on the lifting arm.

FWIW I finally got my shop cleaned out enough to get the car in on the lift. it was a royal PITA to put it on but I got it up in the air without the lift arms hitting the rockers. the bottom line for me on MY car for MY lift, is that lift pucks on the rear would help immensely. The fronts maybe, maybe not.
I had really tight clearances to the rockers and my lift arms. car positioning was critical.

I will post up some pics of what I had to do.

Upside is now I have fresh synthetic oil and a fresh WIX filter, and a new turn signal lamp so the blinker doesn't go spasmatic when I turn left.

I made my own with eye bolts and hockey pucks. They work fine. There is a thread on the forum with directions on how to make them. Easily done

I had to get creative to get less than a 1/2" of clearance to the fiberglass rocker panel
