Ok, on my 2000 C5 base, I fill the tank and the gage shows full.
The gage will run down to just below a half a tank then the gage will go dead! It drops to passed E like it just went dead. The computer will show low fuel with no remaining miles left.
Anyone with this problem? How do I start, or where should I start to fix this problem?
Common problem, the first thing I would do is buy a large bottle of Techron at your local parts store. When you refill the tank when it's near empty add the Techron. It may take more than one tank and bottle of Techron.
Happened to me twice in 3 years running nothing but 94 octane Chevron (with Techron). Both times it was when I completely filled up. So... I try to avoid completely filling up.
If it is fixable, techron will do the trick. May take several bottles over the course of several tanks. If that doesn't work, you are probably looking at a new sending unit...
Techron fixed mine and I haven't had an issue for about 7 years now. I had to use it for about 8 or 9 months. If you can, fill the tank with a big bottle of techron and let it sit for a week or so. If you can let it sit it seems to work better. The key to this is patience.
You can get Techron at Pep Boys, Autozone, Advanced Auto. Get the large bottle if they have it or two small bottles per tank fill. I had the problem years ago the Techron solved it and I only use Shell V Power. Never had it happen again.

This. Hopefully a couple of bottles or so of Techron Concentrate will clear any sulphur deposits. If not, replacement of the sending units may be needed.
I had this originally happen a few years ago. It took two bottles and two fillups and it was cured. It had been okay for quite a while and then suddenly it recently happened again after the car sat for an extended time period. I tried the Techron again but nothing positive happened. I just kept trying it a little longer and then after it sat for a little while again, after I had added the Techron, I suddenly had a properly working gas gauge. Good luck and give it some time.

I add a bottle of Techron when I put mine in storage over the winter.
