Sears.....WOW
In the last few days it wouldn"t hold a charge overnight. Just took it in and with NO hassle, they exchanged it for a brand new one...wow
I had bought a platinum Diehard battery from them with 5 year warranty. It wouldn't hold a charge after 3 years. First hey tested the battery and lied about the condition. Wouldn't give me the print out from when they tested it. Then when I took the battery somewhere else tested it, they gave me the print out confirming it was dead Sears said it wasn't their problem. After getting the store manager they grudgingly replaced it.
Little wonder that they are almost out of business in my mind.

I talked to a guy at the Long Beach grand prix who was running a pro monster truck, all electric. I didn't know there were such things. IT was powered with a whole lot Oddessy car batteries. Guy said they always worked perfectly , no problems, the truck was a couple of years old.
I had always planned on an ac delco, but Think I can move to a more modern construction and ditch the liquid acid over the main computer.

The Best of Corvette for Corvette Enthusiasts
he mentioned how it used to be easy to defeat the alarms on a corvette . Get a long straight prybar, and punch it right through the front and puncture the battery. ONce the battery loses acid, no power to the alarm. Jump start your new free car.
I just remembered, ET who posts here, used to be an engineer. I should ask him about the location decision.
Gee's thanks for sharing easy ways to steal a Corvette..very useful info!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I consider the store a useful resource, worth supporting, even though it is struggling to keep up with the market. Obviously, the employee was not following management guidelines. Why that is an allowable option is beyond me, perhaps it is the wages .
My local sears was busted for repair fraud yeas ago. Still, it is almost like having a dedicated battery store, with nationwide coverage. The diehard name is strong, so chance of getting a fresh battery is better than other locations that sell less. I have a dedicated drive up lane for batteries, and it gets good use , every time I go there.
INterstate is also nationwide and would be as easy to find as a sears or K mart, but is marketed through repair locations, you won't be getting any action on Sunday, with discounts hard to find.
My champion angry customer story is a guy telling me about picking up his dodge PT cruiser, back when they were a fad. The car was paid for, the guy was just there to pick it up. Said he got so screwed around, for hours, he wanted to punch the manager, he was so angry. Said the only reason he didn't was because he was a trial lawyer, and made his living with that kind of stuff.
Those days are gone, those cars are now antique, hard to hide rare cars or parts . I would hope a person with that kind of car and concerned about theft, would be hip to the scene and have a modern self powered alarm.
We have ways of dealing with crime., and I would suppose this is not news to car thieves, since I got the info in a casual conversation with a stranger., not in a jail cell with another thief. If you see a vette of that age on the street feel free to attack . I would simply congratulate the guy on the rare car. I guess they are now rare because all the rest were stolen . Me and my big mouth.
However if You think it is unwise, I will remove the comment. I thought it harmless because that time has long passed and every C5 owner has a keen interest in keeping battery acid away from the C5 brain, and why the brain is in the worst location possible.
On the positive side, if an old car owner sees the post and was not aware of the need to upgrade to a modern self powered alarm , and parks on the street, it might help.

The last two times I went to Sears locally, I just left a pile of tools on the counter as nobody ever showed up to accept payment! It was bad before, but now it is even worse. Used to be that I would just stand there waiting on them to check out one person in front of me for 30 minutes, now they are MIA. Bad enough that I had to relive the routine of turning down a Sears Credit Card for the 100th time and being handed an entire roll of printed toilet paper as a receipt for a single screwdriver!
It is a real shame, they used to be fairly responsive. Locally I cannot figure how they keep the lights on.
That said, I switched from Red Tops to the DieHard Platinum 3.5 years ago and it has performed better than any of my previous batteries so far. I plan to swap it out at 4 years regardless if I can locate a Sears salesperson.

Everywhere I've ever bought a battery from did that. No one has ever charged me an environmental fee either for a warranty swap. It isn't my fault your battery failed, why am I eating that cost?

Instead, I found a bright, articulate young man who immediately started work on the warranty, tested the battery and replaced it with a brand new one. I'm still surprised.
