Probably a dumb question but I just want to make sure I do it correctly.
Vette's throwing the low oil level warning, and it's 3,000 miles away from needing a complete change. This has happened before and my local shop I go to for oil changes just adds a quart of oil for me and charges me $7 (labor included). I don't really have the time this week to get to that shop so I am wanting to add the quart my self. Where do I add the oil? Down the pipe where my dip stick sits?
I've done some googling but only see procedures for a complete oil change when I google, "How to add oil to a c5 corvette"
I take it you're not that mechanically inclined?...
Oil is added via the oil fill neck on the valve cover. On your fuel rail cover you'll see the "oil cap" (will... well... SHOULD read "Mobil 1 Recommended" with oil weight and viscosity levels).
You will determine how much to add via the hash marks on the oil dip stick. With car turned off pull it, wipe it clean, insert, then pull again and check. If there is no oil on the hash then you at the least a full quart down on oil. Add half a quart, check oil level, add another half or whatever is required, until the oil level has reach the top of the hash marks.
"3,000 miles" until next oil change? How long has it been since last oil change? Do you have an oil leak?
I take it you're not that mechanically inclined?... Just want to play it safe... Maybe playing a little too safe this time

The pass side of your engine bay...the cap at the corner of the fuel rail cover...it says corvette on it...you can't miss it... Twist it off...remember righty tighty...lefty loosey...twist it to the left to open....next grab your bottle off oil and proceed with the same left opening action...pour it down the opening where you opened the first cap...

Whaaaat? I always thought it was righty loosey, lefty tighty. Wow... No wonder I've always been having to turn everything upside down to open it!

For the safety of your car go to the auto parts store and ask them to show you how to and oil.im sure they will be glad to help.im sure you don't have a funnel.if you don't know how to add oil,you prob. Don't know how to read the dip stick.

As far as oil consumption on the C5, some of the six speed '00-01 cars did experience excessive oil consumption. I had a 2000 that had the problem. It was caused by a problem with one of the rings on the pistons and presented itself usually in high RPM conditions, although I did not drive my car at the limit very often. Mine was cured under warranty by replacing the rings.
You don't say what transmission you have or how many miles are on the car, but not all the cars have the oil consumption problem. It could be caused by the rings, a leak somewhere or some other problem. A quart every 2K miles is too much IMO but to find out where the oil is going would mean a trip to a mechanic to get the car checked out. You would have to weigh whether the cost of diagnosis and repair is worth it compared to just adding a quart every so often.
Sounds like too much to me, also in my experience you have to be lower than 1 quart low to get that warning light, you should check you oil often to get a handle on exactly when it may be a quart low.
Good luck,
They may not be filling it properly

My apologies for the lack of information. It's an automatic with 75.7k miles on it. If the job of replacing the rings is as expensive as I think it is out of warranty... I'll definitely stick with just adding oil every so often.

Yeah each time I got the light and took it to the shop, they said it needed a full quart and charged me accordingly.
Got it all taken care of, thanks to those who helped
