Default Crap in the shifter box...

This is how the inside of your shifter box should look ... nice and clean

Mine was NOT because of this...it is a rubber boot that seals the shifter from getting crap down in the shifter box... mine was dry rotted and split letting dirt, sand, grit into the box.....

After disassembling every part of the shifter box and shifter plate I could, cleaning and then lubing it I pulled a length of bicycle innertube over the shifter and stretched it over the lip on the lid of the shifter box and put a small zip tie around it to keep it in place...water and dirt proof now...

Better pic of finished homemade shifter boot replacement..

simple DIY thought some of you might could use

Nice job. Is this a stock C5 shifter? Did your repair improve the shift feel?

I actually did this repair to the C6 Z06 shifter that I purchased from a fellow forum member... and it SIGNIFICANTLY changed the way the car shifts
