I love Miatas, I'll drive one proudly, no tint, top down, wearing a clown hat
It's a different driving style compared to a Vette, they define driving fast car slow vs driving slow car fast. Miatas are basic and forgiving, you have to drive ***** to the wall to keep momentum. which makes them fun to drive, you have to drive it to understand, they're not for someone who questions their manliness/sexuality, they are made for drivers
I wouldn't trade my vette for a Miata though, but i'll like to have both. picking up a cheap NA or NB is a good compromise.
I love the people clowning say "That's not a real sports car", or comments hinting that you should turn in your man card or something.
The Miata is a different breed. It's not a 4 second fully blown drag car, it's a driver's car. Until you've autocrossed one or really pushed one to its limits, you really can't clown em. Like FourG posted, they're basic and forgiving. They take LS swaps pretty nicely, and with rwd you can just sling these cars around and control it the whole way.
Know the major difference I find between switching between my MKV VW GTI with stage 1 tune and corner balanced suspension and my new Z06? The Z is beast mode on another level. I finally raced a brand new Mustang GT yesterday and it scared the living hell out of me when I got up to 100 on some thin streets on a long right hand turn.
I've taken the same long right turn in my GTI racing people and that little thing handled perfect. I could floor it and stay planted and not fear that I'm going to chirp a gear, spin the tires sideways and put it into a ditch. A Miata is the same way. These cars are just fun to drive because they're so light and handle the power they've got perfectly.
You can always spot the Corvette owners who aren't "car guys..."
Perhaps... and some I'm sure are as you think.
In my case I simply think they're ugly. If I liked one I'd buy it and drive it. They look like a girl/teen car to me, can't help that. A car's gotta look good before I'll buy it. If it were only about the way it drove I'd probably consider a Porsche.
Add that this is a Corvette forum. Don't really see much point in posting about your other vehicles. But if we're on that train... here's my wife's (thankfully also black) Dodge Grand Caravan (yes, I'm having a bit of fun with y'all now).

I thought your reply was very fair (not my cup of tea but if you like it that's all that matters), and there is always gonna be different taste in cars. I was more pointing out the people who have a Corvette simply as a "status" thing and aren't really car guys (but hey, different strokes, not everyone has to be a car guy either - it was more of just an observation anyway.)
I do agree perhaps the Off Topic section may have been a better place than Z06 Discussion, unless that damn Miata had an LSx swap
guys who have done roadracing have a lot of respect for miatas. including myself.
its very humbling having to point miatas to passs....

Um, I like Miatas, I'm been shopping first gen Miatas. But Miatas are very slow on a race track. I'm sure they're fine in autocross, but they are little more than rolling chicanes on a race track. They can't even corner with a C5Z, much less lap with one.

What?!?! A car with 100 hp isn't very fast? Do tell!
