I couldn't afford a high end radar detector so I went ahead and bought a Uniden DFR1 that plugs into my cigarette lighter socket. When I take the keys out and shut door, I noticed the red light (which indicates power is on) on the plug stays on inside the car, even after several minutes waiting for it turn off. Does this mean its draining my battery? Do I need to always unplug from cig socket after I leave the car? (I looked through the detector's instructions but didn't see it address this anywhere.)
Just a side note. I would not rely too much on the radar detector. I have had my share of 'moderately' price radar detectors over the years. And the 'pull overs' that go along with them. Finally bit the bullet and searched for some time on craigs list and found a used Valentine One. No more being pulled over is all I can say.
I have my Valentine 1 hard wired to my car's wiring harness under the right footwell so that it will go on automatically with the key and off too. No draining problems and no forgetting to turn it on. You also have the RAP function built in to your car so any active electrical items should shut off after 15 minutes.

Did the same for my dash cam and bluetooth hands free speakerpnone.
