I will be using Dr Color Chip (Black) on my 99 C5 just curious who has used this product before and did you do any prep work before applying the color? My car was recently detailed and I'm sure the wax must come off first. Thanks.

Jim,
I have used it with great results but as the name implies....it colors the chip. If you looking for a complete fill of the chip to like new condition this isn't for you.
With that said, you will have to "degrease" the area you're going to fill.
You can control the wax removal by using Naphtha. It will remove the wax but it will not harm the paint.
Dampen a rag and wipe the area a couple of times to remove the wax and then follow the direction supplied with the Dr. Color Chip kit.
After the recommended dry time you can re-wax the area.
I use it all the items, and I clean the area first to get any wax and dirt off.
The trick is the drop the paint right before the area you need to hide, and then swipe. Then take bottle on the rag, and lightly wipe it off, and it should of blend in nicely, DO NOT WAX AREA FOR AT LEAST WEEK.
Agreed it will not fill deep chips. I have two deep chips on the on the top of the quarter panel just behind the door. I have put 15 coats of the Dr in there and it still is not filled. Granted, you can't detect the chips unless you are looking VERY close.
I have fixed numerous shallow chips to where they are almost perfect. I say almost because some guy will chime in and say they are not perfect. But I can't see them so good enough for me.
I have a '99 black vert. When I bought the car it had 30k miles worth of small chips, nothing bad, small but definitely there to be seen on the black paint. Ordered the $70.00 kit from Dr Colorchip, watched their video a number of times. De-waxed with alcohol and filled in chips, one small section at a time, using the swipe method with the soft squeegy. Let it dry for about 15 minutes and then wiped excess with their solution. Smaller chips are virtually invisible. Larger chips took a number of applications but the results were very good. Overall, I'd rate their product at about a 9 out of 10. Its an inexpensive alternative to the usually expensive body shop route. Good luck and best wishes
