I believe they call this piece the cowl to hood seal or weatherstripping. It's at the very rear of the hood opening near the cowl/windshield.
It looks like the PO replaced this part as the rubber seal/weatherstripping, looks brand new, but, there doesn't seem to be anything holding it in place.
Most of the time, when I open the hood, the rubber seal goes with the hood, sort of stuck to it. I pull it off and stick it back to where its supposed to be, a thin (ridge?) that it sits on.
Is this piece supposed to be glued down, or how is it supposed to be held in place?
I suppose I could try a little wax on the underside of the hood to try to keep it from sticking, but I feel there is something missing on the install to hold it in place.
No, it looks brand new. Maybe it's not installed right? Let me go take a picture. I can just pick it up and lift it right off. Wrong part maybe? Although it fits fender to fender just perfectly.
you have it right and it should stay ??? you could try pitching it together with a vise or such use something between the vise jaws and weatherstrip. worse case use weatherstripping glue.
Just run a bead of rubber cement down the metal side and push the weatherstrip onto it...should hold it just fine, BTW.. That piece your holding in the pic doesn't look new to me, Maybe its just really dirty...Hmmmm
I'm trying hard not to glue anything, I don't absolutely have to. My son left me his 84 Fiero, to care for, when he went into the military and the PO's answer to anything, was black rtv sealant or permatex. What a friggin' royal pain that was. I'm trying to be nicer to the next owner.
I'm leaning towards "it's a non-GM aftermarket seal that kind of, sort of, maybe fits." It looks like maybe it was meant to fit on a thicker piece of metal than the C5 has.

It is a pressure fit on the cowl - not glued down at all. If yours is sticking to the hood, try cleaning it off with an all purpose cleaner and see if that helps. If it still clings to the hood, try some dielectric grease on the weatherstripping. Spread it on, rub it in, then take a clean cloth and wipe the excess off.

:agree: If it is sticking to the hood, I would clean/wax the hood and clean off the weatherstripping and condition it.
Would not glue it just clean hood and weatherstripping as others have stated....if you even need to fix your wiper motor or clean the udders need to pull the weatherstripping off.
