Default Is it an M or V code for a 97 EBCM

A fellow forum member is helping me finding a spare EBCM for my 97. How do I know what code to buy? Or could there even be another code letter other than the two above?

Nothing wrong so far, but would be helpful to have a back up if, when I sell it. Any thoughts?

Active handling came out in 98 and the V letter is for the AH module, so you'll need the M letter module.

Maybe it'd be worth it if you find one really cheap. But I wouldn't pay some of the prices. The V modules seem to be the one more prone to failure anyways.

You should also exercise the ABS to ensure the pump doesn't get sticky and not want to run.

Sorry for the stupid question but, you say exercise the pump, what do you mean? By a mechanic? Or just hitting the brakes hard a few times a week?

Can the process be induced by jacking up the rear end and engaging the drive train and applying the brakes?

You can jack up the rear and run it slowly with the TC on and it will run the pump to apply the rear brakes. You should be able to hear it run and see the brakes being applied.

You can use a TECHII to ABS bleed the systems every once and a while to flush out the old fluid. Should be done every few years.

You could just look on your present unit to see if it has an M or a V on it.
If you have the active handling, you likely have a V, if not then a M.

If yours isn't failing, I wouldn't buy a spare, it's a lot of money to invest for a problem that may never happen.

I would wait till you need to replace it, unless you are going to swap it out now and use yours for a spare. Most come with a short warranty.
