Default Clutch Sticking

Just purchased a Z and am having an issue with the clutch sticking.. I did a search on the issue but it seems that people have the issue when driving aggressively.. My issue is when I'm sitting at a red light when clutch is engaged for a few seconds that it sticks and I have to pull it up with my foot. Any ideas? Again not driving aggressive or anything like that... Thanks!

Check your fluid first and foremost. May need to replace it if its dirty.

just had the car looked at and was told the pressure plate needs repaired

does this sound right? does anyone have any estimates on cost of this repair?
Thanks!

Howis the clutch itself? Mileage on it, is it stock? The way you describe it sounds like dirty fluid. Even if it looks clean i suggest using the turkey baser methd or some kind of fluid extractor and rmove all the fluid from the clutch reservoir. Make sure you wipe the bottom of the reservoir because thats where most of the debris sits. Do these a few times within a month and then see what happens. I usually do mine every month, its a quick cheap procedure so it never hurts to do it.

Bad slave or master cylinder, its not the pressure plate.

Replace the master and see, you got a 50-50 shot.

the car is stock. 25k miles.

The clutch itself feels fine.. Its just anytime the car is stopped with the clutch engaged for longer than lets say 5-10 seconds its a 50/50 shot whether the clutch will come back at which time I have to pull the pedal up with my foot and then it will work fine until Im stopped again.

What I have started doing is just putting the car in neutral at stop lights with foot of clutch and its worked fine.. but still I would like to fix the issue. I will try to empty the fluid out of the reservoir and refill.

As for the master cylinder thats what I suggested to the guy looking over the car and he said if it was the master cylinder I wouldn't be able to bring it back up with my foot when it was stuck???

Thanks again for the help diagnosing the issue!

The guy "diagnosing" your car doesn't know what he is talking about.

Fluid is bypassing the seal in either the slave or the master, when that happens fluid is on the wrong side of the seal and this is what stops the pedal from coming back up.

99% of the problems with a hydraulic clutch is the hydraulics themselves. If it had a pressure plate issue the clutch would:

Make a pop noise when the clutch pedal was pushed

Slip under power

Have gear engagement issues when shifting(no release).

Or be making some hella noise.

Get a turkey baster, at any dollar store or super market, suck out old fluid fill with new pump pedal or drive for short period and repeat till fluid is clean! I repeat till total clean fluid is present! If it still does it you may actually have a master/slave problem.
