Default Thinking about pulling the trigger...

FINAL UPDATE
They sold the car at a wholesale auction 1 hour before i got to the dealership to pull the trigger. I will leave the thread here for others and educating purposes.

The time has come for me to get rid of my 2011 Camaro SS. I have always loved vettes and the c5z catches my attention and fits my budget. I have found a MY 2003 Z06 with 49,000 miles. Interior is in near perfect shape. They want $19,950. Is that a fair price? The car is completely stock and I plan on changing that in the near future...with that being said and living in NORTH TEXAS, can anyone recommend some shops for headers, cam, etc... If i wanted something like the MS4 cam, what kind of price range should i be looking at? (assuming Im still stock and need all the supporting mods)

ALSO, what are some things i should be looking for in the MY Z06? I've never bought used...

Thanks everyone and I hope to be apart of the Corvette world soon!

UPDATE! NEED OPINIONS SOON!
Ok guys, I went and got some videos of a walk around, some codes and other things. Things such as the seat backrest wobble, is that normal? Also, it didn't start showing the "service traction control and stability" until i stopped for 10 minutes to take these videos. The dual climate feature wasn't working either (i somewhat expect this on a car this old) is it an expensive fix? I'd love to hear everyones opinions, because I will probably pull the trigger tomorrow! The car drove great, super clean interior, stiff clutch, smooth tight gears, etc.

19k for an 03z with 40+ thousand miles seems like a fair price to me

I would of course try to get a few grand knocked off somehow but if he wont go for it I don't think your doing too bad

The main thing to look for is the engine and tranny, see how they sound, feel , drive etc...

Then check smaller things like the harmonic balancer, see if its wobbly

Check the oil pressure gauge, they are always failing

Leaks etc...

best bet is spend the $100 and have a mechanic check it out for you

Sounds like a good deal if everything checks out. Read the stickies on top of page. Great info for buying and what to look for. GL

NADA books the car between $23-24k. I would say that's a pretty fair offer if everything checks out. Check to see how old the tires are (if original they need to be replaced) and what kind of maintenance has been done. If none of the fluids have been touched then you'll need to replace everything (clutch, transmission, oil, coolant, brake, etc.). Use this to knock the price down some more. Good luck!

Also, check the stickies in the General and Tech section. Familiarize yourself with some common issues so you known what to look at.

As stated, that is more than fair. If it's in really good shape, I consider it an excellent price compared to what's available near me.

If the car is in good shape, that price is not bad at all. For things to look for when buying a Corvette, check out the "Buying a Corvette" and "Things everyone should know" stickies at the top of the page.

See if he keep maintenance documents for the car. Oil changes, tires, anything with car. I bought mine and have the original window sticker and what maintenance was done on my car and I have done the same. Have a book binder with everything done on the car. If need help looking at it I live Fort Worth I will be happy to take a look with you if needed. Send PM

Thanks for the reply. How much should I ask to be knocked off for a full fluid replacement?

It couldn't hurt to ask for $19,500. If it needs new tires too I'd ask for $19k but if they won't budge I would still say the price is fair.

The asking price is fair. If it was to check out to be good. I would rather buy the way lt sits and do what ever it might need myself. I'm sure they won't put the tires you want or anything else. You can make it yours from the get go and know it's done right.

Absolutely read the stickies at the top of the page, useful and important C5 info you should know! Ownership history, accident and maintenance history and a thorough bumper to bumper check by someone very familiar C5's, not just anyone, and I certainly would not use theirs, you want an independent evaluation. C5's are great cars but you must be careful, not the least expensive cars to repair if you get a problem car. If you even get the faintest idea something is not right, walk away. There are plenty of good, clean, accident free and well maintenanced and documented cars out there to be had. If it all checks out then it sounds like a good deal. Take your time, check everything! Good luck and best wishes!

I'd think REALLY hard about that "orange" paint job......

The stripes can always be taken off. You may want to consider this one.
