A couple weeks ago I changed my oil, when I went to lower the car there was squeak or creak noise in the front. Has been making noise ever since. I lifted it up last week and thought the AC lines were too close to the sway bar and rubbing. Adjusted the position a little, tight quarters in there, and it seemed to go away for a few days.
Took it to the shop today and they tell me it is the leaf spring mount. Did a search on this forum and can't seem to find anything about it. Plenty of sway bar bushing squeaking but nothing for the leaf spring. Anyone ever heard of this?
I asked the shop tech specifically if he was sure it was not the sway bar bushings and he said 100% sure.
Mine was making a ticking noise each time I lowered it from jacks. The noise was like the ticking from the old school exhaust systems cooling after you shut the vehicle off. Later I did a closer inspection and found my spring was starting to crack and and de-laminate at the mount. I'm glad I caught it before it failed. It gave me an excuse to upgrade.
I'm not sure if this is the problem you are having but I would check.
I am experiencing the same thing now in my '00 FRC. Replaced front sway bar end links, newer front spring to replace the old cracked one. I do have the front lowering bolts removed, but installed a thin piece of silicone sheet between the spring and the control arm to insulate it. None of these changes made the noise better or worse.
I could have sworn that I read on here somewhere that someone had experienced a subframe mounting bolt that was coming loose - I will have to try to find that thread.
In the meantime, any input is greatly appreciated.
Mine is more of a clunking/knocking. Definitely not the spring contacting the a-arm as I cannot recreate the noise by bouncing the suspension like you're doing.
Watched the vid and that is exactly what mine was doing. Lowering bolt bushings are fine tho. Tech had it up on the lift and 100% identified as the leaf spring mount.
They removed the mounts and lubed 'em up with moly grease, no more creaking.
They also said that the rubber on the mounts looks fine and leaf springs in good shape.
Summers are BRUTAL here in Phoenix AZ. Its been > 100 and the sun and heat destroy everything left out. This car however is a 65K rescued garage queen. I do keep it in the garage and drive it ~ 50% of the time.
yea I fought mine for a lil bit, looking for ways to isolate the spring, think I ended up polishing the arm where the adjuster touched, then ended up on coilovers eventually
