Default HUD install 01 Z06?

I have an 01Z that I would like hud installed. I know I have to buy a hud dash but was wondering if the wiring harness for the hud was there in 2001.

What all exactly needs to be done a d purchased as far as the dash and hud dimmer switch?

thank you all

Tom

I have an 01 Z06 and just completed this install. It is not difficult at all and just takes some time. Since you have an 01 Z06 everything is already there for the install and you can use your current gauges. I purchased a kit from on 03 C5 from AES Salvage (he is a forum member that parts out corvettes). There are also several kits on ebay. It will cost you between $250 to $300 shipped. You will need the following:

1. Projector
2. Bezel for dash
3. Replacement dimmer switch for the HUD
4. Harness to replace current dimmer switch harness to gauges (plugs into slot on top)
5. Rubber expansion nuts to mount projector in slot

There are plenty of instructions out there but I used this and it worked well.

Just take your time and it goes very smoothly. Hardest part is cutting the dash. Just take your time and go slow removing only as much as you need. Don't move too much to start as it will leave a gap. Just keep trimming and fitting. You also do not need a HUD windshield. It works just fine on ours. I really like mine and good luck.

jeff,

i am a disabled vet and not up to doing this myself and would like to purchase a HUD dash. Can you please provide me contact info of where you got all you stuff for the install.

Thank you so much for responding and after having my ignition switch replaced and a LMC5 install, all of my electrical problems went bye bye due to burnt contacts on the ignition switch. I have had so much fun lately driving the car that i decided to keep it.

Mods, if you are catching this, please delete my for sale thread on my 01 z I posted a while back. I have not been on here at all lately so I apologize to the PM's I did not respond to.

Tom:

First of all thank you for your service. I ordered the equipment from AES. Their information is as follows:

AES Auto & Part Sales
Romulus, MI
Phone/TXT: 734-658-1053
Website: www.aescorvetteparts.com
FACEBOOK: AES AUTO & PART SALES

Hopefully, they have another one that you can secure. Their service was great. As I stated earlier, the installation is not too bad and just takes some time. If you are not able to do it, I am sure you can find a local mechanic or someone who can do it for you. I did mine in about 4.5 to 5 hours but I bet I could now do it in less than 4 since I have done it Not sure where you are located. I am near Denver, CO or I could help you out.

I now see you are in Michigan. So is AES so that probably helps. Good luck. Let me know if you have questions.

One thing to remember on the install that everyone forgets because it is only mentioned in the beginning of the instructions. You have to remove the airbag light from the right side of the cluster by the fuel gauge to the other side. Very simply. Unscrew from one and screw into the other. If you don't, it will stay on all the time. I would hate for you or someone to get it back together and have to dissemble again for this. Luckily I remembered before I put my dash back on.
