I got my new wheels coming, and was wondering what folks are using successfully to protect their wheels, in particular, the barrels which will be inaccessible without removal. I've heard of folks using all sorts of things like just a good coating of carnuba wax and silicon spray on the lower end, to on the high end, specialty wheel waxes to Gtechniq which is ridiculously priced and has spotty reviews.
I don't necessary mind spending the dough for a superior solution, but $40+ for 15ml to do 2 wheels, and people still complain that's not enough for a good coating? That might be too bleeding edge for me. I guess I'd rather back it up a notch so I can get a good tub of something I can get multiple applications out of. I figure do the complete removal and wash and protect twice a year (car is stored winters so no issue with salt).
Seems to be a ton of "Wheel Protectants" out there, all making wild claims, but I'd like to hear from some of you all. Thx!

I've been using Mother's Carnauba, but only because I used to use it on my wife's Pontiac, and was using it up. In fairness, it has worked just fine on the wheels, no complaints...
First of all you did not tell us what kind of wheel you bought, What ever you use on your car to make it shine, use it on your wheels also. If they are uncoated use a good metal cleaner. If they are Chrome, the same as what you use on the paint. i do not use chrome cleaner on my wheels.
Sorry, I guess I did fail to mention what I have coming. They are the real Chrome C7 Z06 replicas from Factory Reproductions, and with the small slots, doing the barrels will be pretty much impossible from the outside. So I want to particularly get the barrels coated well. Thanks.

I use Turtle Wax Ice - same as on the paint. I also dust off the wheels after each drive (both on the face and in the barrels) and clean them at each car wash.
Well I lucked out and found a 16oz bottle of Rejex at the local TrueValue so I guess we are going this route. I just did the fairing on my CVO Harley Ultra so we will see how that looks tomorrow after it cures.
