Default Active handling and TPMS

I bought a 1999 convertible a few weeks back. The guy was honest with me and told me the TPMS sensors were bad in the back wheels. The “service active handling” message and various others come up on the DIC. the active handling light has been on 98% of the time. I also continually get “active handling warming up”. The PO said the battery was week. And since it was still in a prorated warranty, I bought a new one.
So I finally found out how to retrieve error codes from the DIC in my convertible. I had 29 codes in various modes. All but two had H for history and most were probably with the battery issue. I cleared them all and will recheck them later.
The two current codes are C2110 and C2115 for the back wheel TPMS.

I am going to ASSuME that if I replace the TPMS on the back rims, my active handling light and error “should” go away? Please let me if I am wrong in thinking this.

Are the TPMS sensors at all user serviceable? I spent every dime I had to buy a lower end C5 and if I can save the $140 for the sensors that would be great.

Anyone ever service vette rims with an old school manual tire changer? I am indeed a cheap bassturd and do my own. I have done 225r40 18’s on another car and they are a pain. Are wider rims worse?

the (4) codes under 28 TCS were

U 1301 H
C 1255 H
C 1283 H
U 1255 H

FWIW the U 1301 H came up under 58 SDM as well.

I have the code chart and will look thru that.
I also have FSM as well and although I have always found them hard to read I am hoping that they will be of help as well.

A weak battery can cause a lot of warning messages to appear on a C5. Now that you have a fresh battery in the car, do as 8VETTE7 says and pull the codes again.

Default Thanks

I have a multitude of small electrical glitches with the car, and I finally scored a set of FSM of ebay. In my limited research the new battery should kill some of the code problems and I will be trying to clean up ground connections next. I will be curious to see what codes come back.
I bought the car to be a daily driver and am tickled pink with it. Having all the “little things” fixed will make it that much better.

I have not had time to go thru and re read codes but after 3 days of driving I no longer have the active handling light on. I still get "service vehicle soon" and two other warnings I will have some time this Sunday to check everything out again.
some of the other electrical glitches seam more pressing now.

I did pick up an early fathers day gift and got some nicer wheels for the car.
now I just have to save up for some money for TPMS sensors and either labor to swap tires or new tires.

I agree with Jack... CLEAR all the codes... then drive your car for a little while and the PULL the codes BEFORE you kill the car... then post the codes... although it sounds like you have ground issues and/or poor connections...

I ASSuME that the process is the same to pull codes with the engine running? with the odo showing, press options then fuel 4 times?

checked the codes before I cleared them
after a week of clearing all the codes I had 3
28-TCS C1283 H

Then the two for the TPMS

BO RFA C2110 HC C2115 HC

After the 22 mile drive home the same 3 codes appeared. only the one was current, where it had been just history.

28-TCS C1283 C

BO RFA C2110 HC C2115 HC

What I don't understand is my code list does not have a C1283 code. I am going to see if anything is in the service manual

well I don't like what code C1283 is.

"excessive time to center steering"

using some tools I don't have it basically says to replace either the lateral accelerometer or the yaw rate sensor depending on the results of voltage tests. if that doesn't fix the problem it says to replace the EBTCM all of which sound pricy.

I am hoping it is just a ground connection. I know the ground contacts are covered in this forum. when I have time I will study them and look at the most likely ones first.

On the up side. fathers day came early and a craigslist score netted some better looking rims for the car.

Straight flat and level are relative terms but Michigan’s Saginaw valley is not known for its mountainous switchbacks. The wheel appeared straight and true well centered and the car went down the road relatively straight with only a finger necessary to keep it from very slowly drifting to the right side of the road. So no joy there.

It is impossible to get a proper alignment hear as all you can get adjusted is toe in or out. Is seems as if they have no concept of caster or camber and would not know what to do to correct an issue.

FWIW I have given up on trying to fix the active handling at this point in time. I can live with the light being on and the constant hitting reset to see the odometer.

I am going to try to fix some of the other electrical glitches and cosmetic ones before I worry about the active handling.

FWIW on my trip down to Tennessee we took a detour on the way back via the national corvette museum....

the interior on the C7 makes my C5 look like a kia
