Default Electrical issues

Well I've had a pretty good trouble free run with my '98 coupe MN6, but have been recently chasing down some electrical issues. First symptom was the cruise control cutting out (cruise control disengaged message) randomly on the highway. No codes thrown; checked every time I arrived at my destination before shutting down the car, so I figured it was one of the brake/clutch switches.

Re-adjusted those to make sure they fully disengage, but same problem. Then more recently I had the car buck and cut out during a 1st gear acceleration a few times. Checked codes again after a few days and had a code for TPS sensor. Replaced sensor, but it's still bucked once or twice since then. No change on cruise control cutting out.

Few days later, I went to start and the fuel pump did not prime, so the engine just cranked and didn't fire. After a few minutes of trying and letting it sit, it fired up. But the dash and DRL lights flashed every 20 sec or so like I went from IGN1 to IGN2 position.

Got it fired up today and drove around for a bit and felt a slight hesitation and immediately pulled over to check codes...C1255H, but no warning lights.

Do these symptoms sound like an ignition switch issue? I've read a lot of threads with ignition switch issues, but they all seem to throw a bunch of codes and error messages.

im no mechanic but the first place I would check is the ground wires, apparently they are the cause of MOST of the electrical gremlins people face with these cars

If you do a search you can find all the ground points , I don't have any help to offer other then that

you need to CLEAR the codes.. go for a drive...then PULL THE CODES BEFORE you KILL the car...and repost
At this point I would be suspect of the ignition switch... but you'll just be guessing without the current codes...
Make sure your battery is FULLY charged and the connections at the battery and the starter are nice and clean and tight...

1Willy1 - yes, I will start looking over the usual grounding points, just weird for this to pop up all at once...especially for a car that only sees water during a car wash.

All codes were cleared before I went on each drive. Each code I posted up occurred during that specific drive only.

the cruise control sounds like a disengagement switch ether the brake switch or the clutch switch needing adjustment.

C1255 identifies a malfunction within the Electronic Brake Control Module (EBCM). It is one of the Antilock Brake System fault codes. If you have access to a scan tool there are addition numbers (C1255xx) that help identify the internal malfunction.

If the fault is intermittent, it may be caused by poor connector mating, etc.

For a "current" fault, the service manual says to replace the EBCM.

I had a similar problem with my 2001 vert with auto transmission. Pulled the dreaded 1255 DIC code. I followed the suggestions by Mr. Bill of things to do and look for before replacing the EBCM. Cleaned and tightened ground points. Disassembled and cleaned contact points on the ignition switch. Did not correct the problem. I then purchased and installed a new ignition switch. Was hopeful that would be the fix... Didn't work. Finally called Brandon at "ABSFixer" (forum vendor - 877-648-7530). Brandon is a straight shooter and won't steer you wrong. He said that the EBCM 1255 code is not fixable. He suggested that I send him the module and he would check it out to see if anything could be done. I sent the module, but, unfortunately, it was not repairable. He sometimes has modules in stock that he has rebuilt - better than new. However, none were available and I purchased a new one. Installed it. Works perfectly, no more codes.
After all that being said, I think you might have a problem finding a rebuilt or even a new module for your 98 vette. GM changed up the EBCM modules in model year 2000, I believe, may be wrong.. But call Brandon. He can better inform you.
Sure hope your problem is just a dirty/loose ground.. Good luck...
