Default Woke up to this

Woke up to this after taking it for a drive after sitting for 2 weeks. I am no mechanic but know it is oil and is not tranny oil. Any ideas where this could be coming from so I dont get raped when take it to shop.

Looks like it's close to the differential. Does it have a really pungent odor?

Differential output shaft seal within all likelyhood; get a light on both output shafts, although it may be coming from the fill plug- Get a 10MM hex socket on it and check for tightness.

Isn't the differential vent on the driver's side of the differential?

It could be just a small amount of the differential fluid venting . My C5 has done that on very hot days when driving at high speed (75MPH) on the highway.

Check and see if the differential is wet on the driver's side top around the vent. If so-you will probably also see a stain of fluid on the driver's side exhaust right before it enters the driver's side muffler.

I think that I can see a stain on your pipe-in your picture. If so--wipe it off the pipe and top of differential (use WD40 to clean the pipe) and see if it recurs after a drive.

I occasionally get a few drips out of mine - as long as it's not excessive just keep an eye on it.

Had the leaky seal on the differential output shaft three times on my '00.

the leaky diff is common, my last vette had it

I spent a total of $0.00 fixing it because it never seemed to get worse and didn't really bother me

Mine was doing the same thing. I replaced the shaft seals on both sides and the cover seal on the passenger side. While I had everything up in the air I popped off the factory vent and now have a hose and breather hooked instead. The factory vent is known to seize up which causes the pressure to leak out somewhere else.

Double pain here my steering rack sprinkles a bit (I add a bit of fluid occasionally) , and my engine check is currently on with a trans code. Trans was rebuilt 2 yrs ago..gggrrrrr

I am officially ignoring both for awhile.

So its looking like going to have to change differnntial seal. How much time for a mechanic to put in and how expensive is part? Anything else I should do why this is apart and getting fixed?

Do you think this leak could be left rear axle seal?

Driver side is most common. On mine it was passenger. I did both sides, I figured if one side went the other could soon too.

mine does the same during hot days also, specially on long trips on the highway. Crawl under it and take a look, it's the only way to find out. Good luck.

So I took my 03 z to dealership for oil change and it the leak coming from rear end is coming from differential output seal. I have a mechanic and place to get parts for cost. Can anyone give me lists of parts and fluids (part numbers if you have them)? It will save me a significant amount of $$$$ to buy all the parts needed and just give to mechanic to change. Thanks in advance for the help.
