Steering wheel removal - With Pics
Well, I tried the Standard GM way, that ripped the sluminium out, then I tried a 3-Jaw puller, that cracked the housing where I could put the legs of the puller. Ok, fine, so then I tried the drill two holes method, tap the holes, and pry it off that way.
Should work...
It ripped out the M8, so I drilled and tapped for an M10, same thing, ripped clean out.
Ok, fine, be that way, I'll CUT it off...
So, I cut the wheel off to give me access to the base of the frame.
Then I cut a slit in the metal sleve that mates to the spline shaft, pry'd it open a little.
It still won't come off...
So, I'm completely giving up on that column.
I've already removed it from the car, and have a new one coming in.
Which, leads me to a question.
My car is a 2002 MN6 and I bought it last year, and it had the column lock bypass done to it, someway, the column never locked. After removing the existing column from the car, I looked and there is no column lock bypass box, and I've read that the GM recall doesn't address the locking mechanism.
So, I'm wondering what was done to this car. Is it something I can transfer to the new column? Is it something programmed into the BCM?
I have to replace my steering wheel due to some damage from bone-headed maneuvering with the dash pad. I've put it off for several months.
I think I'll put it off some more.

This one takes the cake.
On a good note, I got all the stalks off and they all work 100%
