For what it's worth, chevy's official stance on this is that they didn't need a roll bar on the vert because the a-pillar is strong enough to support the weight of the car. Not that I'd ever believe that :-)
Where did you read this? Not arguing--I just never heard of the A pillar supporting the weight of a C5 when rolled over.

They have attempted to do that on the C7, but I have not seen any pics of those verts on the lid. Those C5's I've seen have clearly demonstrated that the A pillar won't support the car upside down, but that goes for verts and hardtops alike. The structure of these cars is magnificent where it matters, but the top holding the car up wasn't ever a priority, as is true with a lot of vehicles.
Fwiw, the DB9 roadster has a rollbar that pops up any time the cars attitude changes to where the computer thinks it's going over. But they are not gonna be had for C5 money.
On a grisly note about the A bars, a lawyer friend of mine tells me of a case he handled on behalf an insurer of GM. Some guy bought a new Corvette several years ago and on his first day of ownership took his son out for a ride. He went off the highway at high speed into some wires that were set alongside the breakdown lane. Both he and his son were decapitated. The estate sued GM arguing that had the A pillars been made of aluminum rather than steel they would not have been sliced by the wire, and the car would have bounced off the boundary wires. The estate lost.
Hey! I love old threads just as much az the next guy!
I got my Wolfe roll bar last year off of Craigslist. I needed it for HPDE. Here's a picture. I hope you finally got your roll bar installed!
