Condenser and/or radiator is plugged, or your fans aren't working. Remember that our cars are "bottom-feeders", and pick up all manner of crap from the road.

Is this a common symptom of a dirty condenser? I notice that my car does this sometimes albeit at lower speeds.

Our condensers don't get a straight-on blast of air like an open-grill car would, and any blockage of cooling efficiency raises the a/c head pressures quickly, and once hot, are difficult to bring back down without everything operating perfectly.
If you haven't made it a yearly ritual yet, add it to your list to clean both radiator and condenser. Take a look peeps, unless you check it annualy, I'll bet it's down a least 20% in efficiency.
