I have the dual climate controls on my 99. When I turn the headlights on I do not have any lights behind the buttons of the control panel except the AUTO button. It illuminates fine. The digital display works fine as I can read the temp, modes, fan speed, etc. other than the backlights, it works great. I pulled the codes and I do not have any codes. Is this problem the same as the dimming display I have read about on other threads? Do the eight small resistors need To be soldered as in the dimming problem? Any advice or knowledge on the subject will be appreciated. Thanks
Look at posts about the same issue under my name. Somebody posted a schematic to trace down the problem.
I fixed my dim display a ways back (yours is not the 8 resistors), somehow dropped my unit after soldering (doh!), and now my back lighting doesn't work. I'll probably wait until I park it for winter...
If your display works fine and the auto button works fine then I'm guessing the lights behind each of the other buttons burnt out or possibly the electrical pathway that powers those lights was severed. I'll let more of the electrical genius' reply whether they think it's the bulbs themselves or something else.

I wouldn't think it's the individual bulbs. One they all lit up, next day they didn't !
If you're up to it maybe take off the radio bezel and remove the HVAC unit. Unplug/replug it in and see if that fixes it. If not maybe take it apart and see if there are any bad welds or if the circuitry looks like it's damaged?
I had Dave replace all mine while doing the LED upgrade to the unit a year ago. He said he had to replace several lights behind my buttons. Everything works great so far.
