Default Has anyone else noticed this?

The blue "MPH" indicator in my 00 FRC changes intensity at random (dims and brightens) with no set pattern that I can tell. This is during the day with lights off. Haven't driven it that much at night to know if it does it with the lights on. Anything to worry about?

Mine does to, only in the day. I've always attributed it to shadows on the roads I drive.

My '98 does the same thing. Have always been curious about it, but never got around to asking about it.

It is linked to the light sensor that is located by your DIC buttons. Cover it with your hand and they will dim, bright light and it will illuminate brighter. Shadows on the road will have the same effect.

Makes perfect sense, I always noticed it would illuminate and and dim at random times while driving. Figured it was linked to some type of sensor.

My HUD brightness sometimes changes as I'm driving as well. I attribute it to the sunlight sensor on the dash seeing a change in clouds or lord only knows what. I agree though, I rarely ever see what's in the cluster any more.

I had never payed attention to the sensor before. Driving home from work yesterday put my hand up over the sensor and it dimmed. I'll be darned!

It is normal the sun load sensor inputs a signal that changes the intensity of instrument panel lighting to make it easier to see.
