Strip it, do it straight from the go. Sound insulate while ya are at it. Not gonna recommend brands many good ones to fit most budget, Pyramid does not count. Sentric back in the day ok on the cheap. Lol. GL, I'm on my third go.
If you're looking for a night and day difference in sounds you won't get it with the bose or retaining the stock speaker size configuration up front. I tried upgrading the stock speaker sizes using polks after changing head units.
It was a little better but still left me wanting a lot more. I then threw in vettenuts sound deadening set, an amp and swapped out the front speakers to mb quart pvm216 6.5 with dedicated tweeter, 10" sub and amp. That made a night and day improvement but the stock tweeter location is awful if you keep it down by your feet. Currently moving my tweeters up to the door handles so my leg doesn't muffle them so badly and going with a better tweeter set while I do it.
Car audio is a slippery slope if you really want a good sounding system spend the extra bucks up front and do it right., wish I would have went big from the get go and not chinse out.

Well Dennis strongly recommends includes a subwoofer in the rear. .
You NEED a sub - no question about it.
With the top down you are sharing the sound with everyone else so you need the extra quality and power to bring the sound back to your ears so replace the Bose speakers as well
Honestly it all depend on what YOU want, like, or need... We have some Kicka$$ stereo in other vehicles, but in the vert it's just not that important to us... I like a nice clean sound that I can hear but a deep thumping bass, and screaming highs were NOT a requirement for the vert...so having said that the speaker upgrade and adding the bluetooth adapter is sufficient for us... good luck with your install
Agree with Dennis's suggestions.
He will offer a number of suggestions to suit your budget or your wants.
The standard speakers are rubbish put simply.
Yes new head deck or NAV system, decent amp, speakers, a sub and amp away you go......
I also spent a lot of time sound deadening the cabin and trunk, made a big difference
Good luck with your project

I've told my grandson a few times...spend $700 on the stereo and $500 on sound deadening...
The BIGGEST improvement we have had in sound deadening was the REAR WHEEL WELL insulation... well worth the time and effort to do...
I also got my double din upgrade from dennis, but I went with Hertz high energy speakers. 6.5 components ip front and a 10in sub in the stealth sub box from dennis. The sound is amazing and at highway+ speeds the sound is crystal clear with the top down.
Not to thread hijack but if anyone is looking for Polk db351 that replace the stock 3.5 twiddlers I still have my polks in like new condition for 35shipped.
