IM too lazy to change the pumps LMFAO. last season i pulled the drive train to send off to RPM Transmissions for a lvl5 tranny & diff w/4:10s and after doing that i never wanna pull the trans DROP drop the effin fuel tanks AGAIN LOL
is there any way to run e85 on a 04 c5z without changing the pump?
****this thread still may be useful but ive went from a c5z to a c6z since this was created. i am still tossing around e85 becuase i just bought a used A&A v3 ti kit
carry on...

My take is that you should bite the bullet and do it right the first time.
I'm also feeling lucky that my pump was easy to change out on my '02. I don't understand why GM doesn't install an access door to get to the pump on cars with this type of setup. What's above the pump? You could always make an access door
apparently there still isnt enough room to remove the pump through the top with a cutout LOL
trust me i already thought of that, its what i did in my 4th gen camaro x2
it just really demotivates me to think about dropping the tanks. i want all the benifits of it but am not accepting "yet", that there isnt another way.
i also read on this forum that c6 guys are running their factory pumps on e85. some have had zero probs, some swear its a bad idea.

Yeah, a lot of the G8 guys used to do that too. Wouldn't have been my choice, but it's definitely an option. I was able to change the pump in my old 335i for an E85 friendly one in about an hour since they had an access door, which was rather refreshing. I wish GM would do the same on all of their models.
Honestly, I don't think I'd trust tapping into the stock tank like you're talking about. The last thing you'd want to do is create a fire hazard. If that's what you want, you should go buy a Ferrari
Hahahhha very true Lmfao. (wish I had Ferrari money)
A buddy of mine did it on a c6z but he's only drive it like 3 times since cause he's gotten really sick so I cant trust whether it would be a reliable setup or would post a hazard like you mentioned.
Still has to be another way, someone has to have done budget e85 on c5z without dropping tanks

i have been thinking about this for a while...there is no way that i can see of yet to get access to it...i have a late 03 z06 so i have the same c6 fuel system in my car as well...it bugs me that gm too the door our to change the fuel pump..lol

I have an 02 so the pump is easily accessible and I am still on pump gas BUT I did tap the bottom of the tank and have an external a1000 run off a hobbs switch... tapping the tank isn't bad if you're careful and do it right... not sure if you are n/a or f/i but the a1000 is not a good pump to run full time, they do fine as a secondary pump though... I am not really opposed to switching to e85 since it is popping up more and more around me but I really don't feel like going in and redoing everything to be e85 compatible... here's how I did mine, you can also see that I used a conversion fitting on the factory return so I could run that to my regulator
That pump location makes so much more sense I can't believe they changed it in 04.
I didn't know about the constant running of the a1000. I appreciate that but of info.
Guess running it on a Hobbs would be cool if I went forced induction.

I've been recently thinking of converting to e85. I also have an 03' Z. Do the 03's all have the difficult fuel pump? What is all required to do the e85 conversion for our cars?
When I swapped out the fuel pump on my 2000, it was easy. I just took the rear wheel off and swapped out the pump.

There are a lot less possibilities for spill in case of accidents when the fuel pump is top mounted. I am sure that was the reasoning behind putting it there. Not to mention the fuel lines.

they started putting the pump in the top in mid 03+, you should be able to look behind the drivers rear wheel and see if the pump is in the side of the tank... I'm seriously thinking about switching to e85 myself over the winter... you will need a compatible pump and injectors that are able to support the power you are trying to make, in general you need about a 30% larger system for e85 than you would need on pump gas... if you are using any -an lines then those need to be e85 compatible as well and not the standard -an hose... that's mainly why I was reluctant at first because the hose and fittings I used to do my fuel system was not cheap and having to do it over again kinda sucks... I probably should have bought e85 hose even though I wasn't going to run it at the time that way the switch would have been easier... oh well it is what it is at this point lol... and last you will need a retune, the stoich afr of pump gas and e85 is very different
I am as well considering the flex fuel conversion instead of using Meth injection.
I still won't change these pumps till they go bad. Also with the flex fuel I can skip the winter prepping and take a little worry about corrosion off my mind

what blower and setup did you get??... I've been talking to a buddy of mine and he says he can get 3 walbro 450's in the tank so that's the route I'm gonna go... I'm going to pick up a spare tank and sending unit for the new setup since I won't need the tap for an external pump and that way I can sell my current external setup nearly complete

a&a is good stuff... 6psi is nothing though, you should bump it up to at least 10-12 to have some fun... I'm going to keep my meth kit as stated earlier and just run a 50/50 mix for safety... were you asking about my current blower or fuel setup?
It's already a hci full exhaust car with stockbottom endsso I don't wanna push it
My plan is to drive it all of next summer around 6 pounds or so and then put a set of rods and pistons in the following winter to maybe put 12 pounds or so
I follow what you're saying about the 50/50 mix and the meth kit but yeah I was talking about your blower setup what you got Cookin

stock block should be fine at 10-12psi as long as you have sufficient fuel and a good tune, I really wouldn't worry about it too much... currently I have an a&a procharger bracket with a d1sc converted to 10 rib, secondary drive, innovators overdrive balancer, cam, headers, meth, etc... I'm still on a stock bottom end and probably pushing it harder than some would but I'm just going to run it like that and maybe build something on the side to handle a little more abuse, I don't really plan on making much more power than I already am
