Finally got around to installing the LMC5 device. What can I say other than this product and the instructions are second to none.
I have done my share of DIY projects over many years. Have had more than my share of frustration with difficult to understand and or incomplete instructions.
The LMC5 is so well thought out as to make installation as simple as possible. The instructions if followed step by step are flawless. Even covers two possible contingencies. The instructions do a terrific job of alerting you to each one. First one was the fact that my wheel locked with the key removed. Easy fix described perfectly in the instructions. Second was I have a relay that not all C5's have. Once again perfect description as to how to simply handle that.
The instructions and photos were perfect. They do not miss a single step or aspect of the install. Even point out to be aware of the orientation of the connectors in the housings when you take them out.
All i can say is I am thrilled with the product and very, very impressed with the install instructions. The best i have ever seen.
I bought a 2002 last weekend about 3 hours away. Stopped for gas 2 1/2 hours away and the inevitable " pull key, waits 10 secs" and "service column lock" messages. I eventually got her going again and did not stop again until I got home. Turns out, the previous owners just got it back from the dealership who said it was fine. Did the lmc5 yesterday in about 10 mins. Bam! No messages. Great product!
I did it on my Z, got it from Compliance Parts, and it was exactly as Ducati described. Fast forward to this car, and I found it in a package uninstalled. So I thought, great, let's do it again. Well for some reason it all turned into a nightmare, and a wire that was not present in the Z was in a different position in this one. I called Dennis(?) at Compliance. He talked me thru getting the column unlocked and told me to remove the module I had and send it to him and he would send me a new one with an additional wire. I received the new one, installed it and still got the "wait 10 seconds" message! I called him again. With me as his eyes, we discovered one of the pins in the bottom plug was in the wrong position. I also then noticed there were 'star washer scars" on the cover plate. We then concluded that the PO must have attempted the install, and placed the guilty pin one slot off. This time I buttoned it up and no problems since. I called Dennis with the good news and told him as I state now that I will unequivocally recommend Compliance for this problem to everyone. I have their skip shift eliminator as well.
Btw, I received the new one the same day I sent the old one back. The whole experience cost the price of postage to send the old one.
A (now) funny side story to my install. An hour after finishing the task it was now dark in my garage. As I walked by the car I noticed that the foot well lights were on. Not supposed to be. My first thought was that something went wrong with the BCM as a result of the install.
I was not thrilled with the idea of having to pull everything apart to check my work. especially since it seemed to be fine based on the test procedure in the instructions. I could not figure out why the lights remained on. Until I put the key in the ignition and turned it to on. DIC helped me out by telling me the hatch was ajar!!! One corner was not latched. How do you spell R-E-L-I-E-F?

I stand behind this product 100%. The guys that sells it wrote an incredible instruction manual. All you need to do is follow it religiously. And if you have questions call him.

Be prepared to do the Brown wire mod--seems like most do with getting the- wait 10 seconds-message--In fact i would do it now--no biggy and you will never see a message again-

I installed my LMC5 module last month after my car started giving me that dreaded "service steering column" message. It started doing it last month and I stop counting how many times it happened over the course of a few days. Support from Compliance Parts prior to receiving the module was outstanding. Took minutes to install. No worries or issues since
Excuse my lack of knowledge but what is the LMC5 device? I just got my original C5 back after being C5-less for 10=11 years. Thanks.

ALL of the MN6 speeds have a problem with the column locking... at the worst possible time and place...
The factory did some "patching" recalls that didn't really fix the problem... so EVEN if you or another owner had the recall work done you still need to do the LMC5 module it is VERY simple and a FIX...You can order it from Compliance Parts... Richard is a TOP notch vendor for the CF...
Here is a little reading for you
Thank you very much. My next question would be: if the person who owned it between my ownerships already did this, is there a way to tell? Thanks again in advance.

Go to the pass. footwell--take off the foot panel--look for the white module somewhere around all the wiring on the 3 connectors--you will see it if its there--

I literally just finished installing this. I was pissed because I did it as a preventative measure... haven't ever gotten a column lock warning yet.
Install it, BAM, wheel locks when key is in ignition.
Looked at all of my wiring, double checked things... let it charge the battery to full and tried again.
Re-read instructions and it looks like I missed the whole "Remove fuse #23 first, turn off, then disconnect battery.... Go to step 2".
Looks like it's working fine now. Going test drive it in a few.

Yep.............the instructions tell you to check if the wheel is locked. And if so to remove fuse #23. Easy to overlook. I forgot to put the fuse back. So when i was done I got the Column lock message. I quickly realized what i did wrong. Put the fuse back and all was well.
