I put Corvettemods projectors with a 55w 5000k hid (ACA copies) they were about $300 and the ballasts came with lifetime warranty. HUGE improvement over stock. Sure Radioflyer makes better ones I'm sure but I'm 100% satisfied with mine...
I've had the same since 2003. No problems with oncoming traffic, and the pattern thrown was identical to stock, as marked on garage door. Holy Crap level of more light.
I had the corvettemods kit and the radioflyer kit. They were both upgrades but the radioflyer kit is really a much kit. The pattern and lighting was just as big upgrade over the corvettemods as the corvettemods was over stock.
See the comment from Lowflyer1 recommending HIR bulbs. I put a set in my wife's car - very noticeably brighter. Got them from Candlepower.
I understand that the HIR bulbs are an improvement. No issue there.
But I was commenting directly on the original poster's question about an "HID or LED bulb" that would just swap in. You can't just swap in and HID bulb or LED bulb. You have to buy an HID kit, and I've yet to see a working LED bulb in the headlight of a C5.

Unsure exactly what the OP is planning but there is a clear film that is legal to put on the windshield whose purpose is to reduce the ultraviolet light from the sun in an attempt to help keep inside temps from getting as hot in the summer sun. I know several that have this coating and claim a significant improvement.
If that is what the OP is planning to do there should be no legality issue.
WRONG! Unless he's in HI, ND, or OH (which only allow for 70% or higher) state laws do not permit for any type of film below the AS1 line. There is no "should be" when it comes to compliance with vehicle codes.
Legal is such a prospective based term. I tend to lean on the interpretation that it is only illegal if you get caught (in the case of uv film on windshield) but who am I to say.
