Default Hit a coconut at speed...

Yesterday, at 5:00 AM, driving to the beach for a long run, I hit a coconut in the middle of the road going 55mph. Bang...could hear it bouncing from the front to the rear.

Slowed down and watched the gauges, all of them and no change.

Got to the beach, ran and then took a look (in the light). The coconut hit the front spoiler/air dam and made it concave.

Got home, put the Vette in the air for a full inspection.(oil line...A/C line...oil filter etc. all ok.

Pulled the front spoiler/air dam off and bent it back in shape....looks perfect now.

Sometimes you don't bite the bullet.

I am guessing because they are round and rolled under your car as opposed to a oddly shaped steel that pokes and rips

Rogue road coconuts are the primary reason I moved away from Ft. Lauderdale back in '92 - that and the mass seasonal land crab invasion of Old Cutler Road down in Cutler Bay near the Mangrove Preserve. No way I was tolerating those random spherical palm grenades or those crunchy critters making a beeline for your tires and low-hanging hoses.

Seriously, glad you dodged a bullet there.

At least it wasn't dropped on the car by a Swallow. But..they can only be carried by an African Swallow, not a European Swallow.

Good that there was no permanent damage to the car.

Move up north, no coconuts around here. Plenty of nut cases though unfortunately.

No coconuts up here in Canada, just moose but in a C5 we just drive under them.

Anyone ever hit an armadillo? I'll bet that's a lot of fun cleaning up...

Pot holes and construction shrapnel including landscaping rocks and fence posts here. Canadians do not believe in securing loads...simply throw into back of truck is fine! Love month end moves where you could furnish your suite with stuff found along roads.

You made my day! The car is not dead yet and it wasn't even a flesh wound. I love the forum and the reading is a lot of fun. Congrats on the rogue coconut not doing damage.

You so beat me to that punch line. I wanted to read everything to make sure no one was hurt (besides the coconut) then I wanted to post that. Worth a laugh now. Bad luck on the Vette, I hope it gets back to mint condition as soon as possible

We don't have coconuts in north Florida. Just armadillo. South Fl must be hard on a Vette.
