Default Small little pleasures of owning a corvette, what are yours?

Both Yesterday, pulled my corvette out of my driveway. Young mother and her young daughter holding hands cross the road 75 feet in front of me for there morning walk. The mom notices the car from that distance.

I went slow and turned right. She now turns back around for another look and now we're 15 feet away from each other. She's caught and zips back like she really wasn't looking. Yes I know, she was really looking at the car, not the 50something driving it!

But even better. I've done this more times than I care to admit. When pulling onto the highway, if i was in my DD I wouldn't try to merge and would just wait till a safer distance to enter traffic. But.....

Because I can, I'll enter with a shorter distance. Still safe for everyone. The person does not think I'll get up to speed in time and starts to move to the inside lane. And I watch in my review mirror as they are half way over only to see them switch lanes again because I'm "GONE".

What's you little pleasures of driving your vette?

I enjoy having people ask me to drive it and then see there face change when I ask "Know how to drive a manual?"

That's entertainment

As much as I say I hate being the center of attention, I must be a secret attention hound - I like turning heads.

The compliments are fun. Parked to run in the store real quick and a 15yo kid was just standing there staring and said "nice car". I thanked him of course. Also the "club" aspect. Went to a gathering yesterday and the car got a bit of attention but met a guy that has a 2001 he bought new. That's always cool. And yes; And I watch in my review mirror as they are half way over only to see them switch lanes again because I'm "GONE" is a blast as well. Certainly outweighs the dumb stuff you encounter...

Small little pleasures? Hmmm...Well there are so many but, what really gives me a sense of satisfaction is detailing the car to perfection in the confines of the garage, in solitude, all the the while taking in the time invested to mechanical and appearance modifications over the car's 16 year-to-date life span. Everyone likes compliments, and I certainly don't mind it but, in that realm it means that much more to me at a car show when I'm competing against people who are just as passionate if not more so, about their cars. IMO it justs gives me a sense of being "worthy enough" to be included. Not all people like my car, for whatever reason and I'm totally cool with that but, I've never had anyone state that my car wasn't well maintained, that is a great "small" pleasure.

Like C5R USA, the small things I like are the detailing of my car in the garage. The car is sitting in the middle of the garage, the radio is on playing Oldies but Goodies, I have a cold glass of ice tea (in summer) a hot cup of coffee (in winter), my dog is laying there in the way, thinking she is helping.
I am getting ready to go to a car show and compete against other rabid car owners. It is always fun. I never get tired of the work.
Going, competing, getting compliments is always a plus. They know how much work has gone into your car, so when they give you a compliment...it means something, at least it does to me.

Everything from cleaning to modding, and of course driving. The driving part is what it does beyond the mere mortal car !!!!!

All of these listed above are my pleasures as well, but driving and seeing America in "Americas Sports Car" is what I love most...

with all of the above but also taking the car cover off of her, it's like opening a present every single time, makes me smile like a little kid.

As Dinah used to sing "See the USA in a Chevrolet" is the best. Any time spent with my Corvette is a great pleasure for me. Mike

I have fun with the guys when they are with their wives. Walking around, asking questions, then I offer the keys to the wife and say take it, but gotta go alone without him!

Not a show guy, not a event guy, even not a guy looking for praise, but just a 73 year old guy that gets many little pleasures out of driving with the top down doing gear changes listening to the 50/60/70’s music.

My 'Dream Car Scenario'.
Detailing
Disassembly and Reassembly (the 'Wrench' inside me)
Driving

Granddaughters saying "They're STARING!"
That delivery guy who saw her coming, forgot himself, and closed the van door on his fingers. Oh Yeah!

The Corsa Exhaust.. THROATY

The neighbors "Oh HEY, We've got a CORVETTE on our street!" (yes, I heard them)

Other Corvette owners.... "Hey, NICE CAR!" ... Even stopped and had a coffee with more than one.

Stopped at a traffic signal in 'small town America', guy on sidewalk "A Marine and His Corvette, GOD BLESS AMERICA!" LOL Yup I definitely heard that one.

30 to 50 mph back roads.... EVERYWHERE!!!

Just behind you on the age at 66, and like you, gave up showing long ago, still like to attend and look though. Also, again, like you, just a terrific pleasure taking a drive, top down, in my '99 vert, tunes blaring, wind and sun, listening to the BB Bullets. Today the gal was busy so I took a ride from East Texas to Shreveport Louisiana, got some Chinese lunch, and drove back by a different route, all just for the hell of it, by myself, and had the best time! Take care of yourself and best wishes!

Most times where ever I go I tell people I went by the way of another city or town and they say, "That's 100 miles out of your way" and I smile !!!
