Default Fuel filter

So I can not justify the price of a ac delco fuel filter and bought a aftermarket one. Has anyone had any serious issues with the aftermarket ones or are they sufficient. When I called Chevrolet they told me something outrageous like $175.00. I ended up getting aftermarket for under 40. I understand that the filter is also the pressure regulator.

I replaced the OEM fuel filter 3 years ago with a $35 Wix filter from Amazon. No issues whatsoever.

You should be OK with the aftermarket one as long as it is a known brand.

In other words, unless they sold it to you for around $40-50, they screwed you over. If so, sorry to hear that..........

I try to replace on a 12 month or 12 thousand mile interval.

So far the Napa gold has been great the car seems to run slightly better but I did also change the spark plugs at the same time.

My C-5 is 15 years old, with fairly low mileage, and I'm the original owner. I'm big on maintenance, and feel that since the fuel filter has gasoline sitting in it 24/7, it should be replaced on occasion, "just because".

Having said that, I replaced the OE filter when the car was 3-4 years old. That filter was replaced 5-6 years later, when the seal on the "output" side of the filter started dripping......fuel right on to the exhaust pipe, when the car was running. Good thing it didn't catch on fire!!

I replaced the leaking filter about 4 years ago, so maybe in another year or so, I'll replace it again.

You need a small socket, IIRC, to loosen the clamp that holds the filter to the car. With respect to disconnecting the fuel lines from the filter, you need one of those tools that slides into the line's connector, and spreads the "prongs" of the connector, so they slide over the "rib" that's visible in the photo in picture #8.

I believe it's a 10mm bolt and you need a fuel line quick disconnect, think 3/8.

The job is easy do yourself a favor and remove the fuel cap before you start then go under the hood and release the fuel pressure by disconnecting the line that goes to the fuel rail. If you are doing it with the car on stands like I did you don't want to be on a creeper with fuel pressure spraying in your face. It is a job that is a breeze if prepared and a pain if not.

Oh and do not for any reason forget to bring a couple rags under the car with you to keep the excess fuel off yourself.

The Wix filter is a better part (IMHO) than the Delco fuel filter and generally costs around $40.

Delco PN is GF822

Wix PN is 33737

Other companies make a part to fit the 99 up to mid year 2003 as well. Mid year 2003 and 2004 do not have an external fuel filter. It is inside the tank and not serviceable without replacing the pump.
Depends. Ford actually has a couple of dealerships that will do like .5% over wholesale on parts. a lot of times I'll order parts through those dealerships and have them shipped to mine. We even have a Ford dealership in the U.S. that sells the FORD (not 3rd party) extended warranties for 1% over wholesale. They can afford to do it because they sell so many.

I would be surprised if there weren't Chevy dealerships that did the same somewhere in the U.S.

Here on the Corvette Forum, we have a sponsor, 'Cultrag Performance' that does something similar, but they send the parts directly to your home.....

Put on a plastic 10 dollar one
It wouldn't seal
Got a wix metal one for 16.00
Worked great
