2nd post here (after the intro). I'm shopping for a C5. Bang for the buck, it seems to be on paper exactly what Dr. ordered. I went out to kick the tires on a 2001 with not quite 30k miles on it today. Car was in good shape in all the obvious places. I am not sure exactly how to evaluate one of these cars as I am very unfamiliar with Corvettes and GM in general. The seller is the 2nd owner and other than what feel like a clutch that needs some help, the car ran and drove very well. He's asking $19k. It's hard top that is nicely equipped with a a Callaway cold air intake and Corsa exhaust.
Am I looking at a good buy perhaps or can I do better? eBay completed listings indicate slightly lower selling prices.
Look forward to your responses and even more to finishing my coffee one morning soon and taking it out to run a tank of gas through my new car!
1. Read the sticky at the top of this page - many pages on what to look for when buying a C5.
2. Don't jump at the first one you see - there are many C5s out there - drive a couple and compare so you know what the C5 clutch should feel like.
Lastly - $19K sounds a little high for a 2001, even with 30000 miles. Sounds more like a $16K car. At $19K you should be able to get into a 2004. A couple of data points: I had a 01 vert M6 with 75000 that I bought for $15K three years ago. Ran it up to 110,000 and sold it for $13K. I currently have a 04 Coupe I bought 2 years ago with 12000 for $24K. Two years later with a couple of mods and 23000 I'm guessing I could get $20K.
As above, read the stickies at the top of this page, very important. 19K sounds a little high. I don't know what made you think the clutch has issues, but if that is the case, walk away. Lots of pristine C5's for sale out there for good prices. Don't be in a hurry, take your time. Do the stickies reading and then get back to this forum for further help. Take care!

Good luck.
19k doesn't sound high for a z06. He says it's a hard top. A lot more car than a coupe.
Why do you think it needs a clutch? 30,000 miles is waaay too low of mileage to need a clutch.
Well, the pedal feel is really soft and doesn't seem to have a lot of resistance when letting it out. Seems to come out a little slower than I'd expect too. My wife drives a 2015 Camaro 2SS 6 speed and that clutch feels a LOT heavier at 20k miles already. The owner mentioned having his wife drive it a little and that she didn't like it. I'm a little concerned she dragged it too much. I DO need to drive another Corvette to compare but the clutch felt, tired?

Depending on the options on the car, $19K may not be too far off with that mileage. As mentioned, read the stickies at the top of the page - they can help you a lot in finding the right car.
