Default OEM vs Mods Value?

It's been a long time since I posted here so I'm not sure if I'm in the correct place to ask this question. I bought my 01' MY Vert with the advice of the members of this forum.

My car was a special allocation car from GM to Ken for a forum member that was delivered at the museum during the forum meet. I was the one lucky enough to buy it.

Once again I turn to you for advice. I had always thought this was to be my "forever" car. I never meant to sell it so I did a few mods, mostly the interior from Sandy King with Vette Essentials.

Times change and it may need to find a new home. Shame, its only got a little over 15k miles on it. Never seen rain. I still have all the original plastic that came with delivery.

Ken installed the skip/shift bypass at the forum meet. I installed a column lock bypass and a few other cosmetic things. Everything could be reversed to OEM if need be.

Two questions: I realize that as a rule, stock OEM is worth more, especially on antique cars. If I end up selling, do you think that these interior mods devalue the cars worth?

Also, this car is autographed by Dave Hill (Thanks Dave! Thanks Ken!). Do you feel that his signature, while seriously cool, adds any value?

Sorry it's been so long....good to be home again.
Looking forward to your input. Thanks.....

Vette Essential Mods. Anybody have a vacuum?

I know, I should have driven it more.

Some people like stock whereas some like mods. I think you'll be fine if it doesn't look tacky. Post some pics. Also you can tell them that all the original parts are there and you might want to include those too. I don't think you'll have a problem.

For a C5 the light mods won't hurt it much if at all. You have the purists who won't touch it but it's a C5 so there will be plenty of other buyers.

The only problem I see is you have a lot of yellow going on in that interior. For me I wouldn't touch the car because it's just way too much. Subtle is better here and unfortunately I could see this being a turn off for many buyers. Use NADA as a guide and price the car reasonably. If you price it right and find someone who likes the interior work then you shouldn't lose too much on the sale.

I don't like the excessive yellow trim. I would leave the column lock fix and skip shift eliminator and return the interior to stock.

I don't mind the extra yellow mods inside but you'll get more bites without it. Oh and keep the signature!

I would want it with all the yellow mods and would DEFINITELY buy it if all the original stuff were also included.

My yellow 'vert had about 10% of the yellow add-ons inside that you have, and I eliminated them except that I installed the console cover you have. Previously, the top had been yellow and the sides black.

The yellow touches in your car have some appeal, but if it were mine I'd get rid of the yellow on the steering wheel first and see how it looks. The seats are kind of cool, really. A bit much, but then a yellow convertible is not supposed to be subtle.

I think you'll find a buyer and get top dollar for it.

Two answers to your two questions.
No, the mods you've done should not affect the value, either up or down.
No, I don't think the autograph adds any value.
Just my opinion

Ok, just my opinion. Nice low mileage vette in that yellow that you can't miss going down the road! For me the yellow accents on the interior are too much. Overall, I'd just leave it as is at least for the first go around on trying to sell. I think enough C5 folks will see the value in the low mileage manual car, just a matter if you like yellow or not. I might be wrong but I believe the yellow is one of those love it or hate it colors (I love it) with few folks in the middle. Good luck and best wishes!

I like the way you have it currently. If you include original parts would be a nice bonus.

With the mods you describe, I do not think there will be any problems with a prospective buyer.

Mods fall into several categories.

1. Things the factory could have done but didn't (ie. the column lock).

2. Personalizations. Some will like it but some will be put off. These limit your market.

3. Performance mods. These tend to scare me a little since I don't know if it's been driven hard, the history or what to expect.

I think what you have is tasteful and I would pick yours over another if I were into yellow. As you can see, not everyone feels the same.

I think your mods are very tasteful if I was looking for a yellow nice low mileage vert that would be the one.

I don't know how anyone could possibly complain about your interior when there is such a thing as "mod red" from the factory.

Your interior looks great, I'm not huge on the steering wheel, but everything else looks good.

Mod red looks awful, I would rather a completely gutted interior than a mod red interior.

There are so many desirable factors for your Vette, low mileage, signed hood, M6, OEM plastic and no mods to the engine. Someone looking for a low mileage yellow vert isn't going to pass on your Vette even if they don't like the interior mods. They'll just change it back as much as they want to. Look at how many C5s are sold with known defects in the interior. If you list this car for sale, I'd just look at what a totally OEM car would sell for and start from there.

I agree. You have a desirable car. If a buyer doesn't like the mods, everything can easily be reverted to stock.

I would offer the stock parts along with the sale.
