It's very possible the shop did add the correct coolant. There are coolants out there that are universal, but have a green dye. When I worked at a shop several years ago we did radiator flushes and topped off dex-cool with a universal coolant that had a green dye to it. Every now and then we had customers that would call or come in all pissed off because they didn't know any better. Using a universal coolant helps shop techs ensure they never mix the wrong coolant on any car. It's a little more expensive for the shop, but helps to prevent the very thing you were concerned about.

...Running 225 degree's on a 95 degree day on the highway doesn't sound like normal highway motor temps to me. Constant running on the freeway at 70 mph for mine at that outside temp is around 187-190. Helirich, my motor (159,000 mi.) is stock, radiator (OEM) and T-stat (185) and running Dexcool in my 99 FRC and I have no heating issue's. Have you personally cleaned the radiator core (outside vanes) ??...

225 @ 70 mph @ 95 degree ambient is still a bit hotter than I'd like. Ideally the car should run at 212, but 225 tells me that you probably have crap stuck in your radiator / condenser.

On my C6 LS2 I only needed to jack up a couple of inches to get a pan under the radiator drain, then let the jack back down once the pan was in place and the valve was opened, moving the jack to the driver's side and elevating a few inches drained another pint or so of coolant. I definitely wouldn't do a coolant drain with the front end elevated higher than the rear end, and would prefer the opposite, but I don't know how much difference it actually makes. I have heard there are two large block drains on the back of the LS motors, but one of them is obscured by the starter.

I agree with others that 225F is quite hot, even when it's 95F ambient. I would suspect some deposits in the cooling system.

There is a drain on the block, don't forget its in the heater core also.

I would:

Pull the upper and lower rad hoses and shove a water hose in the upper and let it flush the radiator.

Then I'd pull the thermostat out and shove the hose in there for a while.

Then I'd pull the heater hoses off and do the same thing.

This should get most of it.

Haven't checked this in a while. The car has been running fine. I've made the 400 mile trip several times now. It might be running hotter than yours because I have so many miles. (Over 200)

2fas4uu, the rad is brand new, (first post in the thread) so of course I haven't cleaned the fins.
