I just purchased a 2000 C5 convertible. Wanting to upgrade exhaust for performance and a better sound. I'm not wanting extremely loud. Any suggestions. Thank you !!!!!
If you want performance from exhaust mods, headers are the key. Mufflers will get very little gain 5HP?), they're about sound.
Headers with aftermarket cats and Ti mufflers sound great, and not that loud; I'd actually prefer a bit more volume...

I agree that a set of long tube headers will give you a decent performance bump. For better sound, there are a lot of options and your best bet is to find owners of C5s that have aftermarket exhausts on them and see if they will let you hear the sound.
I have run both the B&B Route 66 and Corsa Indy Pace Car (now Sport) on C5s. The B&B exhaust looked great and sounded better than stock, but I had a real problem with drone and popping from the exhaust. Had to install an X-pipe on the car to get rid of those problems. My current C5 has the Corsa exhaust and no drone/popping and a great sound.
I suggest looking into XS Power. Nice rumble at idle. Great throaty and noticeable sound under hard acceleration. Quite with no drone while at cruising speeds.
Nothing beats in person looking and listening. Go to your local/area corvette club. Most members will have a wide array of aftermarket exhausts, from full systems with headers to just catbacks, for you to check out. Good luck and best wishes!
Go to youtube and do a search to get an idea of what the various systems sound like. Remember it will just be an idea of the sound.
Once you narrow it down to the two (max 3) systems you like then take friou's advice and go to some Corvette gatherings and seek out the car owners with the systems you're interested in and ask if they will give you a listen.
