If those were the dates on sensors I had recently purchased from RockAuto (or anywhere else for that matter), I would be sending them back and asking for a refund or replacement, telling them I won't accept sensors that are almost 5 years old already. I wouldn't accept sensors more than a year old, two at the very outside (although I would probably keep them, I'd let them know I wasn't very happy about it and probably ask for some kind of discount due to their age).
They were $30 each. actually only a month or two over 4 years old. One way to look at it. I haven't trained them yet but if they'll train,I will keep them.
I thought about it. At $30 I can change them at the next tire change. Discount auto has them dated Aug. 2015. At $80. I don't see spending almost three times as much for three years. I don't judge them by time as they wear faster the more you drive your car. My last set lasted 52,000 miles. one and a half set of tires.
with your thinking, Dale. Based on Discount Auto's price, RockAuto effectively gave you a more than 60% discount on the older sensors they sold you. Not a bad deal.
Also, Rockauto does not accept returns just because of the date.Read the email they sent me below answering my question if I could return them If the code date were over two years old.. They claim that they check them when it leaves there warehouse and will check them when it's return so if it checks out upon return, they will not refund you any money and charge you to reship them back. They also have an automatic $6 return shipping charge to them that they will deduct out of your refund if a refund is given. I just didn't want to deal with them.
Hello,
If the products are defective or fail under warranty, then yes, they may be returned. An old part, however, does not constitute a defect or something that would be covered under warranty. Auto parts do not have a "shelf-life" or expiration date of any kind.
you handled it the best you could under the circumstances. However, I disagree with the flat statement made in the last sentence of the email reply from their customer service. Some items (granted, not many, but in particular those that include batteries) do in fact have a "shelf-life" or expiration date. Another lesson to be learned here: check if you can on the manufacture date of items such as this before buying and question anything you consider to be too old.
BTW did all the sensors train ok? Be sure to train them before you have them installed.
Don't know yet,I'm doing the upgrade to the 01-04 set up and the receiver I purchase was no good. Still waiting on the replacement receiver. Should be in tomorrow or Monday.
