Protected my paint with the GM bra and it did a good job but always have to polish little scuffs here and there. Guess the clear bra has improved a lot over the years so thinking of going that way. Ran without bra on for awhile so picked up some rash and now I'm going to have to repaint before clear bra. Then of course have to wait a while for the gases to escape. What is the best clear bra in your opinion and can a person put it on themselves.
Thank u
I am a 3M installer (side job) and would advise you not to do a bumper yourself. In terms of which bra, I actually prefer xpel over 3M so try to find a shop that carries xpel.

I've had both the 3M clear bra and Xpel and both worked fine. That said, I went with the Xpel on my 2015 Impala and it has been a very good investment. I would recommend Xpel for your car.
I had Xpel Ultimate installed on my wife's new Mustang GT a couple days after we brought it home from the dealer, and I've been real happy with it. A skilled installer is critical though regardless what product you choose.

I want to repaint the car first then install clear bra. I looked at you tube how they install the product. The vid says OEM paint only? Says no guarantee otherwise?
Who ever painted mine in the past used paint that was too hard. It is chipping and cracking now. It needs to be stripped and redone or the bumper cover replaced completely.
The painter really needs to know how to paint these cars or they are doing more harm than good.

They installation process can require the material to be moved around so setting, lifting and resetting. Rob 02 is right. It depends how it was prepped and painted as the lifting can remove paint if it wasn't prepped properly.
I have worked on many hoods and bumpers that were repainted and it was fine. Just make sure it's not a $199 maaco special and you should be alright. Also if they don't bake it, I would wait a month before getting the film applied.
