Default DIC/IPC Replacement???

I know this question has been beat into the ground, but looking for a straight answer on what to do. I have a 1998 C5 and the DIC buttons are not working. Everything else is fully functional on the IPC. What do I need to replace to get the DIC to function properly? I've been told that I need to have an IPC built and I've also been told that I need to have one refurbished. Both shops have told me that I cannot simply buy a replacement and plug and play. What do you guys recommend? This non functioning DIC in my car is driving me crazy and I need to have it fixed ASAP.

I replaced the cluster and used my existing DIC control and HUD control buttons. I sent the new one to a company called SPECMO in Michigan and they set my mileage for me. I think it was around $95 to get this done. I think they also repair instrument clusters, you could call and ask. Their # is 800-545-7910. Another company that might be able to fix your old one is United Radio in New York. Their # is 800-448-0944.
Hopes this helps.

I do know that there is a difference in the early 97-early 99s vs later clusters as to positions of one of the lights.

"There is really no rewiring to do; it is all plug-and-play. Plug the HUD into the cluster, and the cluster plugs into the standard wiring harness, and that's it. Also, the HUD controls plug right into the cluster, so no additional wiring there either. Since you are using a newer cluster in a 1997, you may need to unplug the Airbag warning bulb from its socket, and plug it back into the 1997-position socket".

Thanks for the info. I'm not looking to install a HUD in mine, as cool as that would be to have one though. My DIC buttons are not functioning and I can't set my trip or scroll through my options on my dash. I'm just looking to get that functional.
