I got that dredded grinding noise when I push in the clutch pedal. Sounds like the throw-out bearing is going out. So she is going into the shop to get a whole new stage two Kevlar clutch set-up and while I'm at it going to have an external clutch bleeder installed and going to replace the torque tube bearings while its out too. She has 165,xxx miles on her and the motor still purrs like a kitten. Until she gives up the ghost, I'm not going to mess with that just yet. I have a great mechanic near me that is going to do all the labor for $600. They are the only ones that I will let touch my car. Kellys automotive in Lancaster, California. A small shop but they do awesome guaranteed work...Wish me luck.
ensure they are measuring the air gap on the clutch and adjusting with shims as necessary. Its a definite PITA as you have to do extra work but well worth it. Best of luck to you.

hopefully they know what all is involved, $600 is on the cheap side as far as labor goes... make sure to replace the slave and pilot bearing (only use oem gm) as well regardless of condition, do not use the knock off brands from chain parts stores... what brand clutch are you going with?
Good luck with your repair! Thanks for the heads up on your preferred shop. Always nice to hear! I wish the forum could get a list together of forum member recommended shops around the country, seems like it would be very beneficial to all. Best wishes!
OK, Updated info on my C5 corvette clutch install, The shop that quoted me the $600 price had thought that the C5 had a front mounted transmission and not a rear mounted transmission. So when they realized that they called me after I had dropped my car off to them and quoted me a new price of one grand, Seems to be more of a realistic price quote. That $600 seemed too good to be true and it turned out -it was. So I was recommended a different shop to take it to be a friend of mine. It's called Franks transmissions in Lancaster Calif. Very nice people there too. They have done several clutches just like mine and even had some pictures they showed me of some of the 6sp. C5 corvettes they have done, That was reassuring knowing that they have experience doing these. so they are doing my install for $900 including the resurfacing of the flywheel. That still seems like s good price to me. I will keep you updated on the install as it happens, Wish me luck !!!
