I did think of another question. In all of my searches so far, all of the torch red C5s I've found have a black interior. Are there any of the model years that have say like the grey and red interior, or a black and grey? I'm not crazy about the all black interior, but that's all I've been able to find so far if the exterior color is torch red.

I also thought of another question. What brand and model tires do you guys buy and put on your C5s? If I remember correctly, the Good Years that came on it were pretty expensive weren't they? I would think there'd be some other makes and models in the correct size/speed rating/compound now days that are maybe a bit less expensive and longer wearing?

My Quicksilver C5 has light grey interior and came with some cheap tires that I really love. I got almost 50k miles out of them and bought another set. They were $400 and work well when dry. They suck in the rain, but I guess that is to be expected. I will be getting larger wheels next, but these work well for now.

What are they, and are they run flats?

Sumitomo HTR-Z 2, they are not runflats and I don't have tire monitors, either. I carry a small compressor and tire gauge.

I will get new sensors when I get new wheels.

Then you need to go shopping for just that vette! Just for grins and giggles I did a quick look at "cargurus.com" a few minutes ago. Plugged in the C5 years, selected "Red" and "manual trans" and found 179 red, manual tranny C5's for sale, via that site alone, across the country. That site alone should provide you with a few evenings of enjoyable armchair perusing! Just a side note but keep in mind that a well cared for and lovingly maintained C5 is a joy. But also keep in mind that C5's are also fairly complicated machines, both mechanically and electronically and they can get very expensive to get straightened out if you buy a non-maintained/problem car. Also, and just my opinion, but stay away from modified C5's. Get a stock one and make it your own. There is less chance of problems. Happy hunting and best wishes!

I'm running Nitto's on stock size wheels. In my opinion they run pretty quiet (non run flat), seem to grip very nicely, also seem to wear well, very moderately priced. To be fair I only drive in clear weather, never in rain so can't comment on wet handling and am just a geezer cruiser type these days, occasionally having some fun when no one is looking. Best wishes!

Hankook ventu non runflats here. Very happy with them. There are many tire threads in the forum. Most people are happy with the tires they have as long as they are not the OEM runflats.

Traveled from South Western NC to Upper WV for my vette the end of December 2015 for mine. 2000 base coupe, 6 speed manual, tan/black interior, Ride Control, Heads Up Display (HUD) and Seat Memory pkg, Metallic Red w 31k miles for $16,900. Love it and my first also!

We looked on a ton of sites as far north as NH! Cargurus.com is where we found mine. Craiglist is good as mentioned also. Cars.com is another one. If the OP wants a manual, stay away from the franchised places like DriveTime. All they have are automatics.

Good luck in your search OP and take your time. Test drive a few! Be careful also! Make sure Traction Control is ON!

01 coupe torch red with light oak interior with 30k miles purchased in July.

As many say, you just have to be patient with money waiting and when you find the right deal hop on it!

I think you've hit on what will probably end up being my biggest challenge. I will probably have to travel to find the C5 for me, which means I won't be able to have my mechanic check it out. I will have to learn what to look for myself. I suppose I could talk to my mechanic and he will be able to tell me what to look for, and I should probably print out the stickies on this site. I'm fairly mechanically inclined, but I just haven't learned all of the C5 specific quirks yet. I suppose that will come with time and studying. I will definitely be checking out cargurus.com...

Go to Eklers Corvette web site. Buy the "Corvette Black Book". It will tell you about all the options and changes over the years for C5's and all other vettes.

Welcome to the party...

Thank you. I really love how mine has the torch red/light oak interior as you mentioned you like. The one you are looking for is out there, but you just have to be patient and diligent.

There are a lot of stickies and posts about what to look for when buying, but from my experience I ran into the following:
1. Driver side seat bolster needed new foam and had a tear that I had repaired - $150

2. All fluids needed to be changed (coolant, oil, diff, tranny, brakes, and clutch) - ~$350

3. Front and rear sway bar end links were shot - $150

4. HVAC display was dim/blacked out so I had to pull the unit out and solder the connections as per the instructions found here:
https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...splay-fix.html

I have also added a cat-back exhaust system by Borla ($60 for muffler shop - mufflers were free from a friend!), tinted the windows ($185), and bought a battery tender plus ($50).

These cars really are a tremendous amount of fun. Do your homework, have the money in hand, and wait on the right deal. When I ran across mine I thought it was too good to be true. The gentleman had all of the service records, receipts, and even had the original window sticker laminated! You will know a good deal when you see one.

How are your insurance rates for these cars? I have USAA for my auto insurance, which has the lowest premiums I've been able to find, but I don't how their rates would be on a Vette. I'm 58 years old with no tickets or accidents. I'm hoping my rate won't be too high...
