Hi all, just returned from a trip in my base c-5 and I sorta noticed that sixth gear is rather useless under 70 mph although I enjoy the mileage. The car now has 3:42 rear gears and I am considering changing to 3:90,s or 4:11s. Can someone give me an idea what kind of cost is involved and maybe a place to have them installed. I live in Erie Pennsylvania but am willing to travel to have this done. Any and all opinion appreciated, thank you.
Anyone know the how the price to get a rear end changes compares to the cost of getting later spec gears (or gearbox) where 6th is not such a high ratio? I like the "cruise" gear - the car is quiet and economical on the highway, and a quick downshift to 5th (or 4th, or 3rd) solves any get up and go issues.

I had a zr1 5th and 6th gear put into my tr6060 when I did that swap and those were $500... it really just depends on what ratios you are going for, some of the more popular ratios like zr1 and even the c5z are going to cost more than others from my experience when having mine built... my builder wanted my old c5z trans so he could use the gears because they were in high demand and expensive... your best bet would be to talk to someone who is familiar with this and see what they say because if you aren't careful they could just tell you they swapped the gears but that may not be true... the 2 vendors on here I recommend would be Rick at rkt56 and the guys at rpm, both are great shops... or you might be able to find a reputable shop locally that can do it
