There has been a few horror stories on this forum about jacking gone wrong.
I used the hockey puck with the eye bolt with really good results. I had my car at some extreme angles on jack stands for days while awaiting parts. For safety I use extra stands under the cross members though.
I needed a low profile jack long enough to reach the front cross member. The larger harbor freight racing jack works really well IMO.
Yes, you need them. I bought katech pucks used in the classifieds.
The woodchucks at the "performance speed shop" down the street put my car on the lift and cracked my rocker panel. This makes me soooo happy after i told them to make sure they use the pucks.........

I would highly recommend getting some jacking pucks - they help prevent damage to the rocker panels. I use a set of snap in pucks that I got from BMW. They fit great. Some vendors on the forum offer similar style pucks I believe.
I made my own for about 10 bucks. Went down to the local ice rink and got some used pucks, then got eye bolt screws. Had to grind the point of the screw down a bit. They work great!
They're very sexy, very solid, have a somewhat anti-slip bottom surface, and have I mentioned that they're billet?
Others prefer the simplicity of snap-and-leave-em jacking pucks, which are a very tough plastic, and simply snap in and never come out.
Elite Engineering also has an aluminum frame rail protector that covers the jacking puck holes, and then you can simply jack up under them whenever you want, which is functionally pretty much equivalent to snap-and-leave-em jacking pucks. I preferred to not go that route.

I've forgotten about mine a couple times after changing the oil and after spirited runs, they're still intact.
The BMW snap in plugs are made of a high density rubber and are about 3/8" thick. I have had them in for over 14 years. As an avid autocrosser/HPDE I jack my car up to change tires, suspension, etc over 100 times a year without them ever splitting or breaking. BMW has been using them since the early nineties without any incidents.

I bought the BMW URO jacking pucks others are talking about from Rock Auto (URO part number 51711960752I, set of 4 for less than $35 shipped). I immediately noticed a small amount of play when I snapped them in, particularly on the driver's side - the passenger side seemed to fit a little better.
I've jacked the car up a handful of times and they seem to hold their own. However, I was planning on taking them out anyway because I believe the loose ones may make a rattle noise going down the road. After reading about a similar puck shooting out from underneath a jack in the thread mentioned by thisMSGgood4me -https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums/c5-general/3797719-no-more-plastic-jack-pucks.html, I'll be making the change to an easily removable aluminum version asap.

Thanks Jeff, I just finished making mine. They came out great. Used the exact hardware that you specked except the drill bit sizes. Yours were too small. I used 5/16" for the eye bolt and 3/8" for the t-nut.
Are jacking pucks a necessity to jack up your c5 safely? If yes which ones are the ones to get? Do I need an extra low floor jack?
Thanks!
Need: yes.. I made similar to the "used" Hockey pucks, used soft (pine) wood and I bolts.
Lo profile jack, I got one to use on the C4 and also (now) use it on the C5... so I'll say yes... before I had the Lo Profile jack I would drive my C4 onto 2X6's to use the "regular" jack..
