So I posted in the Audio section but there seems to be very little traffic viewing it. Bought an 04 and am highly disappointed in the lack of options for stereo upgrades without spending 3-500 for a new bezel. How are is modding it yourself? Can anyone share a good path to take? I love my music.
Hopefully moderators will cut me some slack because there is no traffic in the audio section of the forum. Thanks
I ran the flip up Pioneer Double Din for a while. Really a good unit, just didn't like that it flipped up right in front of the center AC vent. I bought the Double Din bezel from Double D Mods recently. Kind of expensive and takes some work to install but well worth it in the end.

Honestly $300-$500 for a properly fitting bezel is not a lot of money when you consider that having to source a replacement bezel, should you mess yours up somehow, is going to run upwards of potentially $150-$250 USED and you would possibly have to deal with issues such as blemishes on the bezel or similar... which would then need to be sent off to be modified. With the double din setup you also open up a fairly large world of audio and entertainment options.
^^^ Dennis is long and well respected within the C5's audio community so I would converse with him for your audio needs.
I don't think he's complaining about the price of the bezel, he just doesn't want to spend that. Honestly, if I wanted to replace my stereo system (I rarely even turn it on) I wouldn't either. Nothing to do with the value of the product, just spending that much to upgrade a car stereo is not worth it to me.
I think he basically wants a single DIN stereo and a plate. Just as good sound but save a few hun.
OP?

You about summed it up nicely. I would be fine with a Pioneer single Din unit. I have 3 amps already and a box with Polk speakers. I want to know if the Pioneer will fit correctly and if I lose any functionality by taking that route.

Pioneer 8200BT, Metra adapter plate and harness. Unit has AM/FM, SD card, USB, bluetooth. Total about $200. Looks and sounds great (does not play discs)

With an aftermarket radio you loose the GM RAP (retained accessory power) capability of the radio. RAP allows the radio to be played and/or the windows to be operated for about 15 minutes after shutting the ignition OFF as long as you do not open a door. Windows will retain RAP but the radio will not. RAP functions over the cars serial data buss which the OEM radio supports. No aftermarket radio I have seen supports the serial data buss connection.
Gotcha, I am not concerned about the radio but I do like the window option. So the Pioneers and others say you may need to cut or unbolt a support? Any ideas?

That doesn't look bad but you screwed up the ash tray.
