is there still a layer of water/dirt protection without the liners?
Makes it easier to clean IMO. Nothing in there for water to hurt, in fact you'll be surprised at how little they do to protect the car after you remove them.

Removing the liners will give you a whooping extra 1/16 of an inch. They bolt right up to the hatch tub.
about all I need to be honest
I built a set of 13's to run on a stock body and it was fine on stock height, but after I lowered it and dialed in my stance it started to rub slightly
barely noticeable but I can hear it on large bumps, so might give it a try
Removing the drivers side liner will leave the fuel fill tube and vent lines exposed to road hazards. Also electrical and mechanical connections on that side will also be exposed.

Thanks ET. Would you happen to know if the liner's from the z06 give any better clearance? I'm hearing conflicting stories. That being said I may remove mine and try and make my own using the original as a temolate or I may leave them bare and only cover what can be damaged in the well.

Both liners are made from the same mold. The coupe liners have a witness line where the insert for the brake duct cut out is either removed to make Z06 liners, or inserted to make the coupe liners,, but the basic liners are made exactly the same.
I too have removed the (rear) liners on my Z06 as they were rubbing somewhat when I had a passenger... I don't drive mine on in climate, rainy days.... Really only occasionally on the weekends, and mainly at 1/2 mi events. Doesn't seem to effect anything and as ET stated, I have additional wire loom, electrical tape for the harnesses and such.
A question for ET.....
Bill are there any adverse effects regarding turbulence, airflow under the car w these removed when running high speeds? (170+) I have yet to run the car with them removed @ the 1/2 mi events. I have a Wanna Go fast event next month and was just curious.

Thanks in advance....
What is your overall tire diameter on your ride? Or what is the tallest that you have ever run?
I spent 80 hours in the wind tunnel with the C5..It was never a thought or a test to fail to remove the liners., but I would say that as good as the aero effects are. I would say that removing them would be a negative effect, I'm only offering an educated opinion here, and not an actual fact backed by data.. I would suspect that removing the liners would lighten the down force in the rear, which at 120 mph ( 193 km/h) is 71 lbs. per sq. inch (489 kPa ).
There are other factors involved as well. center of gravity, ground clearance, air spoilers in place, etc. Anything that effects the stock suspension parameters and ground effects will impact the reading that a stock C5 was designed around. Remember its just an educated guess without the privilege of data to support it.
I think I am inclined to agree with you Sir... thank you for taking the time to reply. I have been struggling w re installing them. But your observation makes perfect sense. I would not want things to go array 2 170+... I am going to do some more research.... Thanks again!

My rear wheels are 18x11... running a 345/35/18 MT ET Street... I NEED that for traction as my car currently makes 793 ft lbs of TQ to the tire. removing the engine this weekend for some tweaking so it will be making more by the event. definitely have some things to think about.
