C5s are really hitting a floor for their value monetarily. The good used C5 market is also so incredibly large. You can find really good cars with 100,000 miles $12K-$10 and even below that all day long that need very little, and we're going into the winter storage period which also helps with people wanting to get onto the selling wagon.

You'll also need to really price the little things, like tires (it needs tire. The tire pic shows they're over 10 years old), a possible re-paint, for sure targa and likely door seals, and on and on. A complete seal kit for the targa and doors can easily run near $2,000 to replace it all. Tires can be everywhere from $800 to well above $2,000. That's just the surface of things.
In addition to the other replies, THIS is what I really wanted to hear. Thank you very much. Yeah, looks to me like the car will end up being a no go. While I am trading a project rather than a fully functional daily, I do not want to trade a headache for a stomachache

Hopefully this isn't the last you folks have seen of me... learned a lot in the short time I've been lurking this forum, and even more after registering. You guys seem like a wonderful community to be a part of.

Good move in letting this one go, I just couldn't see any upside for you unless it was just about given to you. If you keep an interest in C5's, best performance bargain on the planet by the way, stay with this forum, its simply the best. Lots of good folks who are more than willing to help out on just about any C5 question you can come up with. If you haven't already done so, read the stickies at the top of this page for a ton of great info for the aspiring/new C5 owner. Think about what you are looking for in your vette, be patient and fussy, lots of very nice C5's out there, you just have to look. You can start with this forums C5's for sale page, or check on a number of other sites to give you an idea of whats out there nationwide, current pricing and a multitude of other variables. Remember, the hunt is half the fun! Good luck and best wishes!

Remember, it's not the sugar coated you WANT to hear, it's what you need to hear from the experienced here, and that very often has nothing to do with dollars and cents.... Those are a given

You have to look at a few used Corvette's to get a good idea of what all these folks are saying. When I bought my '01, I commented on how clean the engine compartment was, the salesman said "It came in like this, we didn't have to detail a thing" and that is true from 80% of the Corvette's I looked at.

That car was driven very hard and not well kept. My car was also driven hard, but was very well kept by the 2 previous owners. So look at at least 5 Corvettes with the same mileage and you will see some obvious differences.

The wheel pictured went through some hell, wow.

Rough shape is an understatement! I would move on and look at others as most Corvette owners take really good care of their cars & their pride of ownership shows through.
Establish your budget, don't be in a rush and when you find the one you like definitely have it checked out by a qualified automotive shop that is familiar with Corvettes.
