Why procrastinate? Assuming you're going to replace the tires once it's home anyway (you must/should), then I would just go ahead and set it all up and get it done BEFORE the trip home. Sure, odds are you probably won't have a problem if you don't, but all it takes is one blowout at highway speeds and you'll be asking yourself if it was worth waiting for.
Thanks for all the opinions. Since I am going to place them regardless, I'm just gonna set it up to get them replaced shortly after I pick it up. Like I said, I plan to have them replaced anyway and this will give me more piece of mind. The present owner says they are in great condition and I am having CarChex do an inspection tomorrow so we'll see what they say as well. Again thanks for all the opinions, but it just comes down to piece of mind for me.
Knowing what I know now about the difference between new tires and original Goodyear run flats, I would suggest put new tires on ASAP and enjoy that first magnificent drive home.
Bought my 03 coupe a year ago and, even though everything checked out, those originals were horrible to drive on for the few weeks before I bought new tires and made me wonder if there was something wrong besides old tires. Rough ride, noisy, grabbed every ripple in the road and wanted to steer itself. I can't emphasize enough the night-and-day difference and how a fresh set of tires vs. originals really brings out everything that's awesome about these cars.

Look the tires over well. Look for cracks in the rubber etc. Take it easy on the drive home and most likely you will be fine. I traded in a 2000 F-150 on my vette in 2012 and drove it all the way to Houston, about 900 miles. The pickup still had the original tires with about 40,000 miles. I made it just fine.

I think that would be best. Besides, the car will ride and handle better with new tires, and your drive will be that much more enjoyable.
You do know we need pictures, right?
Don't forget The Wave!
p.s. I bought Michelins for my C6, and I love them.
