Default Tall drivers, remove that dead pedal!!

This may have been posted before idk. If you are a taller driver with long legs and try to sneak your foot behind the clutch pedal to stretch out just get rid of that dead pedal. Heck even if your short but want the room.

While driving around I get frustrated because I don't have anywhere good to put my left foot due to that monster dead pedal. Two 10mm nuts and that sucker just pulls right off leaving a nice cavern for my size 14 boot to fit. Doesn't even look bad. All you can see while sitting in the drivers seat is a small stud off to the left.

No, that actually looks pretty bad.

You do realize I took that picture from floor level right? Just to show how much room there is. Some people want to be comfortable driving their car. Function over form.....Here is one from just under the wheel. That doesn't even show how it looks from eye level. If you wanna show your car take a minute and a half and pop it back in.

I actually like my dead pedal. My Tick adjustable clutch is almost the same height so transitioning from the dead pedal to the clutch is very natural feeling. I'm 6'2" BTW.

Glad you like having the extra room!

It's another option for someone to try, but I'll keep the dead pedal on my car.

You are correct. However, when you post anything in a discussion forum, you open yourself up for just that.......discussion. Opinions won't always be the ones you want to hear.

I personally like mine. But to the OP: If you're going to leave it out, you should really come up with something to give it a more 'finished' look. Over time, that open space is gonna be a boot catcher on the carpet on the bottom and panel on the top and you're gonna have issues down the road with wear and those items probably "sticking out" further into the cockpit. Better safe than sorry.

Not for me but I'd hack the stud off with a wheel and get some black carpet to improve the looks and finish it off...............as someone said that stud will ruin shoes.

Like the idea - but I like the dead peal too - is there a way to shorten it? maybe half it's size?

and over on the other side - the gas pedal - can we do something about that?

6'3 and I just fit in my car - it would be nice to have some wiggle room...

I'm 6' 3" and did the following to get more room:

1) Had the seat professionally modified to allow it to go back 1 1/2" more rearward on it's track.
2) Removed the dead-petal. Spun the nuts all the way back onto the bolts so that I won't lose them and covered the exposed bolts with black electrical tape to protect the threads and hide the ugly. Currently looking for a black insert to cover over the opening that the now missing dead-petal left.

Conclusion: I do miss the dead petal sometimes! I'll drive it a few months more and see if I become comfortable with it gone. If not, then I'll fabricate something as a more forward dead petal.

I would also like to find a safe way to move the accelerator pedal forward a few inches; however, I've not had the time to investigate.

YOU KNOW THAT'S REALLY NOT A BAD IDEA. I WOULD PROBABLY PUT A SMALL VACUUM CAP OVER THE STUD TO KEEP FROM HOOKING MY SHOE ON IT. I'M 6'3'' AND THERE ARE A LOT OF TIMES I WISH I HAD MORE ROOM FOR MY FEET, IF FOR NO OTHER REASON THAN TO CHANGE POSITIONS.

Default New dead petal

How about an alternative idea.
Bought an extra dead petal off Fleabay for $20 and fired up the dremel.
Cut the dead petal approx. 3" to have a new frame. Now will take more time to sand/dremel and fit the two peices so that the petal fits within the new frame. Result: a dead petal approx. 3" closer to the firewall. Will take pictures of the final product. (Caution: The most dangerous animal in the woods is an American male with a dremel!)

I WOULD BE INTERESTED IN PHOTOS WHEN YOU ARE FINISHED. I'M NOT FAMILAR WITH HOW THE DEAD PEDAL ATTACHES SO NOT SURE HOW YOU ARE PLANNING ON CUTTING IT DOWN AND THEN REATTACHING IT TO THE CAR. 3" CLOSER TO THE FIREWALL WOULD BE A BIG IMPROVEMENT!

Default It's the right distance! - I Like it!

(I think...) The 'dead' pedal on the C5 is perfect! It's even with the gas pedal - the way it should be. This makes it perfect for bracing yourself on turns, especially when the turn is 'hot'! On my CTS (not-a-V), the dead position is farther than the gas pedal, making it difficult to brace on turns (unless your left leg is longer than your right! LOL).

But then again, it all boils down to preference so: keep it or remove it - just make it YOUR way!...

to each his own. I liked mine the way it came from GM except I added an Elite Engineering aluminum fascia for looks along with an EE aluminum gas pedal. I use the dead pedal a lot when cornering hard.
Were I 6+ feet tall, I may feel differently. To each his own. Keeps life interesting and vendors making lots of money.
