Heads/Intake. Easier too.

Yeah a DIY cam install is more labor intensive, but you'll get better results with a cam kit, assuming you get the right cam. Also, if you have an A/T, gears, and converter would be my first move. I'm assuming you already have headers.

Would be good to know something about the car. Auto/stick, gears if auto, existing mods or stock?

None.
Get a used supercharger kit (if on a budget) and never look back.

Thanks guys.

6 speed car with stock gears.
No headers
Its got a corsa extreme xpipe and axleback, a tune and air intake, ory.
Was figuring i could do more value with some 243's and a dorman intake over a cam kit or headers.

I would do the heads and cam together. That's after headers and intake is done.

What about if:

2001 coupe
LT full exhaust
6 spd
Used for HPDE and street driving
110k miles

Yes I know, should do heads and cam, but if I had to do one, which would I go with? If heads, what heads, if cam, what cam???

Sorry to jack the thread

I'm in the same boat, and leaning toward cam since I have to replace my front main seal. Cam kits are cheaper than heads, and should yield similar results. Can always add heads later easier.

Unless you like extra labor do the headers the same time the heads are swapped.

It's a lot of labor to do each separately, but if I were going to do just one, I would do a cam. You will get nice results with a noticeable seat-of-the-pants feel, nice change in sound and at a fraction of the cost of heads.

That being said, I wouldn't go through the work/cost of a cam install without matching it with a set of heads and doing the install/tune all at once. Yes it is more expensive, but you won't decide not to do heads and it'd be better to save/research for a bit and bite the bullet all at once.

Start stacking parts on a shelf when you can and do it all at once. Less doing things twice. You can put your tools away and be done.

There is so much overlapping labor for heads and can I would save to do both at once then I would be done with it.
