Does anyone know how long it takes for the Active Handling system to "warm up"? Every time I autocross my car, I put the car in Competitive Driving mode. Sometimes I'll get too aggressive with the throttle coming out of a turn and I'll do a 180. The active handling definitely is not working. Now here's the weird part: right as I finish the course, I get the message on the DIC "Active Handling warming up", followed 5 seconds later with "Warm up complete". So I'm like where the hell were you 30 seconds ago when I needed you?!?
Almost every course I've run has been 50-60 seconds in length, so I'm thinking maybe 60 seconds is the designated warm up time for the AH?? But if it is, how come I never see this message under normal driving conditions?? Am I supposed to do donuts in the parking lot for 60 seconds until the stupid system "warms up"? I don't think the SCCA safety inspectors will appreciate that. :D ;)
I think there's something wrong with the system on my car, but wanted to hear from others if they experienced something similar.
Have a 02 Z06. Have done 2-3 autocrosses and 20+ driving schools. Havn't run across error messages you descibe. Are you trying to get it into competivie mode or standard active handling?

Competitive Driving Mode. Here's what I do: the staging area to park between runs is like 50 feet from the start. So I start the car, hold the T/C button for 5 seconds to put it in Competitive Driving as shown on the DIC, and drive 50 feet to the start.
Maybe I'm getting old and forgetful, I think I remember reading in the owners manual something to the effect that you have to travel so far or wait for a certain period of time after cranking the car before you can put it in Competition mode. Sorry, I don't have my owners manual here with me, but maybe someone who does can check it for us........
Thanks for the tips guys. When I get home I'll have to 1) check the codes, and 2) read the manual again. I remember reading about the warming up message in the manual, but can't remember what it said exactly. I thought it was kind of vague like you may see the message from time to time but don't worry about it kind of thing. I'll read it again though.
I was driving on a dirt driveway last May with a lot of bumps and dips. The warm up message lit up. Later on I found the computer threw a code speedometer reading interupted. My hunch is there is either a loose connection or a bad connection.
As far as Active Handling in wet conditions dont trust the computer to perform miracles. If your car sways more than a few degrees from straight line, there aint no saving you. Prudence and wet weather tires are your answer. Just my 2c from experience.
I've seen a similar report from an autocrossing driver. The Active Handling warm-up business is a little obscure, since it seems related to temperature and use in some fashion. I do remember reading that the car needs to be driven in a straight line for a certain distance before the warm-up can occur. It's possible than in an autocross event, you won't be travelling any straight lines until you're done .. thus the delayed warm-up message. I think what you're seeing is normal behavior for the circumstance.
We don't even want to discuss what I sold it for! I sold it back in 1982 ....... yes it was matching numbers..... Wish I had it back now or could get it back............ I would love to have another but the wife says 2 Corvettes is one too many now!

Somebody got it right. It depends on temperature, and how soon you do your first turn. Happens all the time in the winter in the Northeast, especially if there is a turn immediately after the start, followed by more turns without any significant straights. Normal, and throws no codes. If you are getting codes, it's something else.
