Default Drivers side window leak

Good evening my Vette Friends-

I have a C5 vert that is leaking at the top seal where the window and the rubber seal meet, right below the top.

Here are the clues that I have found so far. I am asking for advice/help from your past experiences with this issue.

1. It isn't a drop, its quite a bit coming thru during a good downpour even sitting parked, enough to soak the carpet. It is coming straight down- tried closing door, rolling down and rolling up window- to no avail.
2. When I do close the door, the drivers side sounds different- best way to describe is "rigid". The door is latching and closing, but sounds not quite right and no warning lights. If I open and close passenger side, it seems as it sounds more "fluid" like everything is working, moving, etc. No unusual marks on the catch. The mechanism where I can see in the door seems to move fine.
3. It is a vert so I don't expect it to be ultra quiet. I think it sounds good for a vert.
4. I do see a difference in the seals on both driver and passenger windows, and the way the windows touch the seals. I also see a bit of difference looking both driver and passenger where they touch at the front gaskets going down the windshield (where these windows meet the windshield).

I took to the body shop (as my boyfriend who is better under the hood said he did not want to mess with the window- guess I don't blame him). Body shop recommended that maybe the driver window angle may be off a bit, and the body shop man said lets try there before replacing the rubber seals.

Any words of advice is appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Thank you,

Yup, they can adjust the angle of the window to (try) to eliminate a leak (the window puts more pressure on the rubber seal)

It also makes the door harder to fully close.

Caveat
Since changing the angle of the window at the top also changes the angle at the bottom, if adjusted too far, it may induce a problem at the A or B pillar, which requires another adjustment until a happy medium is found.

very easy to adjust. Square cover on bottom of the door near the front. -- loosen the nut. Other jackscrew under reflector on door. you loosen the two bolts, and adjust the jackscrew (for the back) and pull the window and tighten the bolt in the front, then tighten the other. it'll make sense when you see it.

search for "corvette c5 tip-in adjustment" and you can find a better document with pictures pretty quickly.

i'm dealing the the same thing. Need to find the right tool to loosen the jackscrew though... it's really small hex head....

I have a number of Word files that deal with window adjustments and leak detection on the C5. If you'd like a copy of the files, just PM me your e-mail address and I'll send them to you.

Try placing a paper dollar at the site of the leak--and close the door with the side window up. And then try to gently pull the dollar out between the side window and the weather strip. Note the amount of resistance. Compare with the passenger side and see if there is a difference in resistance to pull.

Also note the condition of the weather strip compared to the passenger side. How pliable is the rubber?

There is a break in the side window weather strip aways back from the windshield. My convertible will leak in that area if high pressure water is directed in that area. What is the condition of the two adjoining weather strips in that area?

Rubber seems good. I will try the dollar trick at lunchtime.

Thank you very much,

Time to massage the rubber parts with silicone dielectric grease. GM recommends routine application. Works great.

Default You won't like this.

The area from the joining of the rubber seal and window seal is the area I use, to break into my 01' C5 coupe when I accidentally leave my keys inside. I just use a straightened coat hanger and slide it straight down to my window lock. Ever since I had the windows tinted it's been easy to do. I took it back to the tinting shop saying the rubber gliders on the bottom of windows do not match. They claimed the tinting would have nothing to do with that happening. So at least it saves me from calling and waiting for AAA. Sad but true. Plus I'm always in a quandary as to where to take vette for service.
