Default Lmc5

Getting ready to do the LMC5 module. 1ST. why the brown wire and why is it caped off. after you disconnect the neg. cable from the battery and the install is done do you have to re-program the radio?. the recall has been done on the column, but I thought that the wheel would move freely when the car was turned off, mine locks up when I turn it off. have not had a problem but I do not want to get stuck somewhere. any help would be appreciated. THANK YOU IN ADVANCE GINO.

I just installed the LMC5. I never had a PULL KEY or SERVICE COLUMN LOCK message before but installed it for peace of mind. As soon as I finished the installation I got the SERVICE COLUMN LOCK message. Went through the troubleshooting instructions and the LMC5 is installed correctly. I checked my yellow top battery that stays on the battery tender all the time and it shows 12.0 on the DIC with the engine off (not sure how accurate that DIC is). With engine running it shows 13.9. Compliance Parts says the service column lock message is likely to the low battery. But I have had batteries below 12.0 and have never seen the message and didnt see it when I pulled the car from the garage to do the LMC5 install. So if Compliance Parts is correct that means the LMC5 makes our already glitchy electronics even worse. I never intended to install a device that makes things worse when voltage gets low. I do have my doubts its the battery voltage doing it though.

With the engine running and the DIC showing 13.9 volts, that's about right, but that's not indicating what the battery's voltage is, it's indicating that the charging system is functioning properly.
Then that would mean the LMC5 is causing a symptom that otherwise would not exist. Dang. I'm going to remove that thing and toss it.

I had to do the brown wire on the last one to get rid of the codes and also make it work correctly.
I do believe it has more to do with a recall being previously performed?

Either way...it sure did the trick where the other failed.

You have to follow the instructions to the T. Don't skip steps or do any unessary ones. The likelihood that it's operator error is very very high. This is a very good and mature product with a solid track record. I know I checked it thoroughly. The instructions are as good as it gets.

I called compliance parts with some questions before installing mine. Turns out there are 2 versions of the BCM. The brown wire mod has no effect on the early ones (which I have), he said not to do it.

First things first, check out the battery the right way. If it checks out to be ok (which I doubt) then go into debug mode.

Battery is 12.85 volts and its still throwing the service column lock message. Its definitely the LMC5 thats faulty.

you should call Richard, and you most likely need the updated LMC5 with the brown wire.

Ok I pulled the LMC5 and the Service Column Lock message is gone. No one can dispute it anymore. The LMC5 was the culprit. Itskind of ironic that it caused the very thing it was supposed to prevent.

Then clearly the design was faulty from the start. I emailed them and we will see if they will stand behind their product. I shouldnt have to pay another penny.

Call Compliance Parts, very helpful. He helped walk me through the issue I was having and ended up doing the brown wire mod. He even waited for me to start it up to make sure I didn't have any issues.
